Historia
His passport read Giovanni Rossi. But decades ago, during the Urban Wars, he was part of a small, secret organization called The Twelve. Responding to an urgent summons from an old compatriot, he landed in New York and eased into the waiting car. And died within minutes… Lieutenant Eve Dallas finds the Rossi case frustrating. She’s got an elderly victim who’d just arrived from Rome; a widow who knows nothing about why he’d left; an as-yet unidentifiable weapon; and zero results on facial recognition.

This one dives onto Somerset's past in the Urban Wars. Great story about the importance of honor and friendship in fighting the good fight.

Historia
After an adventurous season spent excavating at Dahshoor, and narrowly averting the clutches of the Master Criminal, Victorian Egyptologist Amelia Peabody Emerson and her spouse prepare for a quiet summer in England. The social and domestic routine, though interrupted by the precocious escapades of their only child, Ramses, hardly seems much of a challenge for the indomitable Emersons.

Another fantastic installment. Be sure to read them in order as they get more serious later to match world events and the growing community of characters.

On a hot midsummer night in Discworld, everything seems perfect - crop circles are turning up everywhere, the witch Magrat Garlick is getting married the next morning, and everyone's buzzing with excitement. Unfortunately, the Lancre All-Comers Morris Team has gotten drunk on a fairy mound, and the elves have returned with the traditional traits of the magical realm of Fairie: evil, malice, murder, cruelty, and kidnapping. Suddenly, Granny Weatherwax and her tiny coven of belligerent witches are faced with their biggest challenge as they try to pull off Magrat's wedding.

One of my favorite entries in the Witches series. Read them in order, but wriggle in glee when you far to this one.
The narration is the best and the audio quality perfect. I hope the keep the Stephen Briggs and Nigel Planer Discworld books available until the end of time!

Historia
One of Jane Austen’s most beloved works, Pride and Prejudice, is vividly brought to life by Academy Award nominee Rosamund Pike ( Gone Girl). In her bright and energetic performance of this British classic, she expertly captures Austen’s signature wit and tone. Her attention to detail, her literary background, and her performance in the 2005 feature film version of the novel provide the perfect foundation from which to convey the story of Elizabeth Bennet, her four sisters, and the inimitable Mr. Darcy.

This is such a wonderful read of this classic. Sooooooooooooo good I keep rewinding. It was fun to learn how much of the dialogue in the BBC miniseries was taken verbatim from the original book. Austen goes further with a look into the lives after that everyone will want to read

There is something so mesmerizing about Ivory’s writing. It makes me remember what it is like to feel.
She conveys the growth of emotion and the progress in the change of character so well that everything I’ve read since seems like stop-motion animation.
Take time to listen to this wonderful story.

Not my favorite Balogh
Revisado: 03-17-18
This was a very comfortable novel. Every situation that could have created tension or conflict quickly resolved in the best possible way. This makes it hard to get to know the characters.
The heroine is brave and genuine but we never see her truly challenged. Every situation simply turns out well. The hero’s most common expression is to repeat that he hates to be bored. Yes, it is an affectation to hide his true personality but it wears after so many repetitions.
I liked both of them well enough and am curious about the people surrounding them so I may read the next book... Usually in a new series I cannot wait.

“Lady Hawksworth, your husband is not dead.” With those words, Lara’s life turned upside down. Hunter, Earl of Hawksworth, had been lost at sea. Or so she’d been told. Their unhappy marriage - with its cold caresses and passionless kisses – was over. But now a powerful, virile man stood before her, telling secrets only a husband could know, and vowing she would once again be his wife in every way.

Normally LK is one of my fav authors...
Revisado: 07-15-17
The heroine held her whiny, hypocritical, martyred course throughout the book. I kept hoping for some character arc, but no. Very frustrating. Especially because the hero is truly interesting and overcame so much in an attempt to win her trust and love. I could not understand her complete failure to see things from anyone's but her own point of view. In the midst of various crises affecting people she supposedly loves her thoughts are all about how she has been betrayed and how her life will be affected. Wash, rinse, repeat.
I would love to see this hero have another chance at a heroine equal to him in character and genuine kindness.
Good narration and charming secondary characters. I have not lost faith in LK, so many great novels, but wish I had not spent a credit on this one.

Painfully silly. Cussler, Ludlum fans beware
Revisado: 08-16-05
This book represents a miracle of marketing-- how else could they get blurbs from Nelson DeMille and Clive Cussler?? I hear they posted a job listing on Monster.com to recruit agents for the "Atlantis Project" so maybe that kind of stunt has drawn people to read this excuse for a thriller.
I don't mind an outlandish plot-- I love escapist fiction. But the descriptions are so banal and the characters so unlikeable that I found myself laughing at the writer's choices (rather than enjoying the ride of a compelling story).
Definitely my harshest review ever, but the combination of poor prose, whiny characters and contraction action (comes every two minutes whether the plot calls for it or not) deserves zero stars.

Historia
Beatrice Poole may be a vicar's daughter, but that doesn't mean she's a stranger to the darker passions. Indeed, she knows enough about gothic terrors to have carved out a highly successful career penning "horrid novels." But now the talented authoress finds herself in the midst of an ominous adventure that rivals anything she's ever written. Her beloved Uncle Reggie is dead, Beatrice suspects that he was murdered - all because of his keen interest in a fabled treasure that may not even exist. Rumors abound that the Forbidden Rings of Aphrodite, said to give their possessor the most unnatural powers, have surfaced in London. Yet Beatrice needs more than rumors to uncover the truth. That's why she's braved the wilds of Devon to seek out a leading authority on antiquities and ancient legends: The famously eccentric, unquestionably reclusive, possibly dangerous Earl of Monkcrest, a man believed to dabble in the supernatural. But bearding the Mad Monk of Monkcrest in his den and dangling the possibility of uncovering a fabulous artifact before him may be the biggest mistake of Beatrice's life. For suddenly, she finds herself joined in an uneasy alliance with a man who is every bit as fascinating as one of the heroes in her novels.

Don't believe the hype
Revisado: 01-28-05
What a disappointment. I accidentally clicked two stars-- meant to give it just one. I picked it based on the customer reviews and Scott Brick's talents as a narrator. Even Mr. Brick couldn't save this one; though the narration is very good, this story is not. The plot doesn't twist-- it rambles, the characters are boiler plate, and the hero's behavior is bizarre (super cool one moment, silly outburst the next). Throw in some painful deus ex machina moments and you've got this book in a nutshell.
Some fairly good chase and slaughter scenes, but that's not why I read a mystery.
