Having listened to and poured over the entire Michael J. Fox book collection:

"Lucky Man: A Memoir" (2007)

"A Funny Thing Happened On The Way To The Future… Twists and Turns And Learned Lessons" (2010)

"Always Looking Up The Adventures Of An Incurable Optimist" (2013)

"No Time Like The Future: An Optimist Considers Mortality" (2020)

As Michael himself says in this collection over the course of the journey he is definitely an optimist; however he is definitely a realistic optimist. This is not a collection of glossy Hollywood stories with bubbly "look at me" anecdotes. To the contrary, it is a real life story (told over the course of 4 volumes)

Yes, there are a few famous names which pop up in the book from time to time, however it's in no way to be "showy" these people just happen to be Mr. Fox's true friends.

Michael writes lovingly about his family, how they've, yes, been very supportive of him of course; further however, he is very proud of what his children have accomplished in their own right as individuals.

The respect he has for all those people who have personally assisted him in his life and supported his humanitarian cause is constantly woven and rewoven beautifully throughout this continuous story of a life which is being lived with passion, conviction, empathetic diligence for humanity, and yes as he himself says realistic optimism.

His 30+ year marriage to his wife Tracy has been filled with Hollywood success, but even better their actual lives have been filled with tests of redemptive successes which has assisted not only Michael in his journey but the journeys of so many untold people around the world; through their starting of and continuing work with the Michael J. Fox foundation!

Obviously, I would recommend these books and really Michael's own powerful telling of his own life's journey and mission is made all the better because you hear it all in his passionate yet dignified, sometimes witty, sometimes carefully measured melancholy narration. Michael J. Fox - his past, present, and Future!

"Hi Honey, I'm Homo!" A detailed triumph about why representation indeed matters so profoundly! Mr. Matt Baume once again narrates/writes beautifully, thoroughly, and definitively in this follow up to his last prescient offering "Defining Marriage"

This time, he explores the role that television and media has played in relation to lgbtq+ culture and it's acceptance or lack thereof based on the ebbs and flows of cultural moras; further the impact that detractors to/of progress have had throughout television's existence. Specifically, how media can and does change public perception for the better in the long run when the real world advocacy is married to thought-provoking artistry which television can present.

Yes, of course any chronological book which explores this topic; you're going to see entries such as: "Will and Grace" "Ellen" "All In The Family" and "Soap" - Don't worry they're all here; in all of their glorious splendor, in wondrous detail. However, you will find in this book some nice surprises along the way. In fact, one of the most moving circumstances chronicled in this book is from one of its shortest chapters; it's connected to the series "Dinosaurs" of all things!

This book is a must read for TV historians and lovers of humanity alike (spoiler alert) that Should be everyone!

This book is a detailed and honest reminder of the long journey and the movement so many had to forge towards equality for not something like or close to marriage equality; No Indeed Marriage Equality - or better said; marriage as the law of the land for All, guaranteed!

Mr. Baume simply yet brilliantly brings the listener along with him on the journey and future he himself was both on and helped to carve (the future path forward of) further, he explains to the listener (in a caring way) why they should care about this part of our country's history; and why we most definitely need to still be concerned about it to this very day. The tone of this book is both passionate & beautiful...

This book is a must for anyone whom wants to better understand the history on this journey or have their faith in humanity restored - perhaps both!

This memoir is quite powerful. Mr. Smith speaks about the highest of highs & lowest of lows in his life's journey. He speaks pointingly about his love for his mom and siblings... He speaks with a level of angst about his estranged relationship with his father. And explains why his father caused his family so much needless pain and strife.

The eloquent way he speaks of so many friends and mentors whom assisted him to reach a level of achievement very few even dream of. These many relationships took Stephen A. from a person who had educational weaknesses in his youth, with (quite understandable) self confidence concerns to one of the most prominent voices of American culture within the sports world and beyond...

This story is enthralling, I listen to the entire book in two sittings. His story is made even more spellbinding because Stephen A. is telling it to us in (the listeners) and I say he's telling us, intentionally because he is not reading the book he is very intentionally; with emotion telling us and expressing his story with deep and abiding emotion the highs and lows of life - His Life!

I would recommend this book to anyone who feels they want to be inspired and need to experience an example of what perseverance can achieve; when we realize life is more rich when its done together.

I enjoyed listening to this very detailed compilation of stories and anecdotes from the amazing life of legendary comic genius - Carol Burnett. Yes, she tells stories about friends of hers and colleagues who happen to me famous in the general public mind... However, anyone who listens to this book quickly realizes that Mrs Burnett is as down to earth as one could be. she's so humble about her own talents and accolades.

She deeply respects her peers and legends of old Hollywood. it's obvious from this book that Ms Burnett absolutely adores her family! she is not a Hollywood snob who is aloof or untouchable. chapter 53 is completely gripping & will not leave the listener's spirit! Carol Burnett is so much more than a universally beloved sketch comedian. I'm glad I spent this time, and you will be too!

"How Y'all Doing" is like Mr. Jordan himself; sincere, moving, and hilarious! Part memoir - part short stories; this book is full of Mr. Jordan's memories and life lessons - it is wide-ranging and heartfelt.

this experience is made that much better because Mr. Jordan is inflecting his own passion and style as he immerses the reader into his life and culture simply by the way he chose to perform his memoir. The listener can really peer into Leslie's being. All at once be swept away by both is humorous storytelling nature and his gripping humanity. I recommend this book to anyone who wants to hear a story of perseverance and learned confidence. This memoir is a study in how one can become comfortable in your own skin at any age no matter one's circumstance.

Thank you Mr. Jordan for giving us all this precious gift to remember you by - further one could garner confidence, and in some sense wisdom from it.

"Letters From An Astrophysicist is:
delivered with intelligence. It touches on a myriad of subjects; some serious, some somewhat humorous, some answered questions, with a dash of discussion of certain points of view from the public at large and Dr. Neil DeGrasse Tyson himself. This book is perfect for anyone who enjoys books which are read by the author.

Further, the letters which are written from the public are spoken by narrators which all capture perfectly the feelings and nuance of the portion of the correspondence which they are presenting. As such, this aspect does well to have the listener to feel as though they are right there in the room having any number of one-on-one discussions with Dr. Tyson.

This exploration of thought, ideas, and insight does well to balance the answers to the subject matter in detail yes, yet and still not be too wonky as to lose the attention of the reader or listener. I would recommend this title to anyone whom wants to either and perhaps both expand their understanding on many subjects, or join themselves in the enlightening conversations which are contained within: "Letters From An Astrophysicist"
