This book is difficult for me to rate, as I think the story is a good one, but in my opinion, Bill O'Reilly hurt the book by reading it himself. While he may do well on a television news show, he is not an actor, and his reading lacked both inflection and feeling. He droned... which I felt made the material uninteresting, no matter how good the text was, and I found myself falling asleep. As I have just purchased a Kindle Fire, I will purchase this book in that format.

This is another one of Sophie Kinsella's books that stole my heart and made me laugh out loud as I was listening to it. I usually purchase non-fiction literature, which I read from my Kindle, but I've found that when I'm listening, I prefer something light and well narrated. Kinsella's books bring a respite from the worries and stress of every day life, and Rosalyn Landor brings such life to these colorful characters. "Becks" is a darling, and now we have her "Minnie-Me" to love and amuse us as well. Please, Sophie...keep em' coming! I have become a true fan of your work!

Only most of this book has already been told...and too much of it is unsubstantiated. Do you think it's possible for Oprah Winfrey to have built her Harpo empire without stepping on some toes, and making some enemies?? She's a shark and a smart and savy business woman!
Kitty Kelley is no dumbbell herself; she wrote another long, boring book, and although I should have known better, I paid for it! Be smart...keep your money!

FUNNY! And I NOW love Carrie Fisher!

So I'd like to ask the readers who gave this book a bad review, what did you expect from Carrie Fisher? A self help manual? Not a previous fan of Miss Fisher, I am now! She writes a marvelously funny book about some pretty sad events in her life, and she does it with humor. And not a hint of self pity, as I've read in so many other books by the children of famous people. I loved her "it is what it is" attitude, along with the obvious love she has for her mother. Yes, I laughed out loud! And, Carrie...PLEASE come over for a glass of wine anytime you'd like!

I panned Mrs. Edward's first book, finding it self-serving, and insincere. This one is different. She manages to maintain a great dignity, while seemingly to write from her heart. The grief she feels at the loss of her son, is apparent in both books, but "Resilience," shows a woman I very well might like, as she is obviously struggling with her feelings re/the very public betrayal and on-going lies of her husband. In view of all the news of late, no one can deny that John Edwards is a very slimy man, with little strength of character.

I laughed out loud!!!

Revisado: 01-04-10

This book is a gem! I am usually a fan of non-fiction, and it takes something pretty good to get 5 stars from me...but I really loved this book! It has to count for something that I read it coming off of "The Help," which stole my heart. And it's highly possible I was in need of something light, but when a book makes me laugh out loud, I know it's a good one! I love the narrator, who absolutely breathes life into Rebecca, and makes her so very lovable! I saw her as an appendage of, or at least a good friend to, Bridget Jones, and wished I knew her personally.
Surely, even the most penurious and self disciplined of us, can see just a little something of ourselves in "Becks." Wonderful story, which I couldn't recommend more highly for a fun read and a respite from the stress and worries of every-day life! I am a new fan of Sophie Kinsella!

This book is a jewel! Well written, with well developed, interesting characters and a great story! So hard to believe that this is an accurate picture of the relationship between many white southerners and their help in my own lifetime. The narrators are as good as they get, making this one of the very best books I have ever bought. I was sorry to have it end, and I have bought it in hardback for my husband for Christmas. Thank you, thank you, thank you...for a wonderful listening experience!!

I bought this book with hopes of understanding something about the Edwards family, in view of his apparent philandering and lying to both his loved ones and his political supporters. A bit voyeuristic?? Yes...no excuses offered. Elizabeth Edward's paints a picture of an immensely caring and attentive husband, who physically and emotionally supports her and their children in every way possible. Hard to believe under the circumstances. Is she the epitome of a political wife, protecting her ambitious spouse, or was he able to deceive her so completely?
Although no one can argue her love and great pain at the death of her 16 year old son, which was told with heartfelt prose. But I both dozed and figeted as I listened to Mrs. Edwards lengthy
thank-you's to myriads of people, from staff, to friends, aquaintences, and finally even people who sent her get-well notes and small gifts. Again, her gratitude was heart felt, but listening to lists of names, both first and last, of countless people was tedious and boring.
I know this may sound harsh, but if you're not a friend of the Edwards family, who will probably be named in this book, save your money.

I think I've read most everything Anna Quindlen has written, and I've always enjoyed her stories.
So I bought this one without reading any of the reviews. What a mistake! I fell asleep while she told what the sister said on televison that created such a stir...and later realized, I didn't really care! After attempting to get back into it three different times, I gave up. Extremely boring...and I didn't give a hoot about either of the main characters.

Come on Anna...I have grown to expect far more from you!!

Actually, I'm still trying to decide how I feel about this book. It's easy listening, and simply written...sometimes too simple, and occasionally tedious to listen to. I found the stories re/Todd's childhood extremely boring, and rather mundane, not giving the reader any real insight as to what kind of boy or man he was. In my opinion, Lisa Beamer came across as fairly "unreal"...extremely virtuous, and very much in control. I realize she was extolling her Christian beliefs, but I can't help wondering if there might be another "Lisa" underneath it all, who is much more interesting and heartfelt. I guess it was "her" story I was hoping to read, instead of listening to her ongoing proselytzing.

So now I'm left questioning her genuine feelings, along with her motives for writing this book. For several years after 911 she seemed to appear on every talkshow available. But now all I have read about her is that she bought a second home for 1.9 million dollars and has remarried. Poor girl.
