OMG!!!

While listening to the previous books in this series, especially the first, I enjoyed the development of the characters and their relationships with each other. However I started to want to pull my hair out the nastier, and more vicious things became. I'm not so naive as believe that people like that don't exist in the world and that everything is sweetness and fuzzy kittens. I unfortunately believe that there is a natural tendency in the human species for the self-obsessed behavior described in this story. And that it only with conscious effort that we overcome that tendency and develop the good in ourselves.
I will finish the series hoping that there is redemption in the end.
I love Orson Scott Card's stories because he doesn't sugar coat moral dilemmas in his characters and I do recommend the series. Just leave your sensitivities at the door.

New to Koontz

I crochet or do needle work while I listen to Audible. I've seen Koontz's books on shelves and listed on Audible for years but never was really interested in picking one up and don't really remember why I placed 'Strangers' in my wish list. After listening to it, I am looking forward to trying others by the author.
I appreciate his character and story development. Even though at times I became somewhat irritated at how long it took to make progress with the subject, I kept listening and was not disappointed at the end which I won't allude to, so as not to spoil any part of this amazing work to a future listener. If you're not sure about this book, I say give it a try, you'll be surprised.

I feel rather befuddled after listening to the book. I was engaged during the first part but the ending left me expecting something more.

Pure Poetry

After reading some of the other less over flowing reviews, I believe that the readers thought that the story would be more of a sci-fi theme. However it is a story about life, how we perceive our place in the world, how youth transitions into adulthood then into old age and death. Ray Bradbury's characters show us these transitions over the course of a summer. His descriptions are mesmerizing and Stephen Hoye's narration perfectly added to the quality of the story.
This is one book that I will look forward to listening to over and over.

Really enjoyed this listen!

I am a huge Clarke fan, but I was skeptical about a story that was built on mathematics, having struggled with the subject in school. I am so glad that I didn't pass on this book. Yes, there is a huge amount of high level math speak in this story, more than I could wrap my mind around, so I didn't even try. I just strapped myself in and enjoyed the ride. Didn't we all do that with "2001: A Space Odyssey"? I appreciated the character development with the exception of the military egomaniac who wasn't really necessary to the story. Clarke's "cameo" made me smile.

I couldn't get past chapter 5. The character development was taking so long to develop and a story line was no where to being seen (heard) that I couldn't get into it.

Enjoyable closure story

This was a nice follow up to Night of Summer, Dan Simmons initial introduction to Dale Stuart, which was excellent as a stand alone. However I did find the part about Claire a distraction. I was pleased to have Duane's character paired with Dale's tale.

WOW!!!

'Stand by me' meets Steven King! It's been a long time since I've come across a story that has held my attention from beginning to end as this did. I was sent back to my childhood as the author developed the relationships between the characters and relived those last days of school and the expectations of Summer. I was not let down by the narration either, Dan John Miller's performance was absolutely wonderful. I also have to say that the direction was well served. I only hope that the next segment of this story will be able to meet the bar that has been set by this satisfying production.

This is the freshest story that I have listened to in a long time. First of all Scott Brick delivers his usual brilliant performance. The authors have delivered a story that reeled me in from the first chapter. This book can be a stand alone or easily followed by a sequel and not feel like a formula set. A good job by all! Thank you.
