Historia
Hillbilly Elegy is a passionate and personal analysis of a culture in crisis - that of white working-class Americans. The decline of this group, a demographic of our country that has been slowly disintegrating over 40 years, has been reported on with growing frequency and alarm but has never before been written about as searingly from the inside. J. D. Vance tells the true story of what a social, regional, and class decline feels like when you were born with it hung around your neck.

Fantastic read!
Revisado: 07-20-24
What a wonderful enduring and well written memoir. Very insightful and introspective look into the rust belt and Appalachia. Very bright and intelligent young man to have written this at such a young age. Very similar to my own experiences growing up in the Midwest in the 70's and 80's and the decline of our small towns and factories.
Definitely worth the read/ listen and even better hearing it in JD's voice!

Historia
On Christmas Night 1996, six-year-old JonBenet Ramsey was murdered in her family's home in Boulder, Colorado. A ransom note was found, but it was hours before her father, John, found her body in the basement. She had been strangled with a garrote and her skull was fractured. The media sensationalized the tragic death of the "child beauty queen" and public speculation and rumors ran rampant. What followed was one of the most notorious unsolved murder investigations in American history.

Lou's dedication to the victims and what an outstanding man he was.
Revisado: 07-09-24
This was very well written and narrated. Great overview of the JonBenet Ramsey case and Lou's dedication to the victims of crimes using his 30+ years of experience and knowledge to see beyond the short sightedness of the Boulder police department and his life long dedication to find justice for a child murder victim and her family.
Appreciate the author's insight and involvement in trying to get this case solved by the only means available: DNA evidence and dedication, passion and resolve to bring justice to JonBenet and the family and bring some closure and peace to them and right one of the most horrible cases of mis-justice in our country's history. Thank you! Let's all keep pushing to get this case solved!

Historia
On an April night in 1989, Jo Ann Parks survived a house fire that claimed the lives of her three small children. Though the fire at first seemed a tragic accident, investigators soon reported finding evidence proving that Parks had sabotaged wiring, set several fires herself, and even barricaded her four-year-old son inside a closet to prevent his escape. Though she insisted she did nothing wrong, Jo Ann Parks received a life sentence without parole based on the power of forensic fire science that convincingly proved her guilt. Now, that evidence is being called into question....

Revisado: 01-30-19
Very sad but moving book. Hard to read/hear at times being the survivor of a house fire but very worth sticking out the tough parts and facing my fears. Very interesting information about fire forensics, bias etc. I learned a great deal and throughly enjoyed the soothing narration.
