Facing life alone, they turned to crime together. Dolly Rawlins, Linda Perelli and Shirley Miller are left devastated when their husbands are killed in a security van heist that goes disastrously wrong. When Dolly discovers her husband's bank deposit box containing a gun, money and detailed plans for the hijack, she has three options. She could hand over the ledgers to the Detective. Painful ..
Revisado: 09-19-18
The first Lynda La Plante book I did not like. Excruciatingly slow and the narrator was poorly matched to the story. First time I’ve listened to this narrator and it will be the last. Torture for the most part even though I skipped many sections. Very disappointing!

Historia
Comedy superstar Mike Myers writes from the (true patriot) heart about his 53-year relationship with his beloved Canada. Mike Myers is a world-renowned actor, director and writer and the man behind some of the most memorable comic characters of our time. But, as he says, "No description of me is truly complete without saying I'm a Canadian". He has often winked and nodded to Canada in his outrageously accomplished body of work, but now he turns the spotlight full-beam on his homeland.

"The dog came back." "This is a joke, right?" "No, it isn't.... So do you want to hear the rest of it?" Dumbly, Jury nodded. The rest of it is told by Harry Johnson, a stranger who sits down next to Richard Jury as he's drinking in a London pub called the Old Wine Shades. Over three successive nights Harry spins this complicated story about a good friend of his whose wife and son (and dog) disappeared one day as they were viewing property in Surrey.

Tedious in parts
Revisado: 06-17-18
Too much repetition of esoteric ideas got in the way of a good yarn. I love the Richard Jury series but this one had a frustrating ending. A surgical edit could do wonders for this book.

Historia
Annabel was about to take the veil to become a nun, when her mother suddenly arrived at the abbey to take her home...so that she can marry the Scottish laird who is betrothed to her runaway sister! She knows nothing about being a wife, nothing about how to run a household, and definitely nothing about the marriage bed. From the moment Ross MacKay sets eyes on Annabel, he is taken with his shy, sweet bride...and the fact that she's blessed with lush curves only makes him utter his own prayers of thanks. But when an enemy endangers her life, he'll move the Highlands themselves to save her.

Disappointing
Revisado: 06-27-17
What would have made An English Bride in Scotland better?
Better editing and narration. It's surprising that the narrator pronounced plaid as "played" instead of "plad". A quick check on the pronounciation of this basic Scottish garb would have been fundamental.
What could Lynsay Sands have done to make this a more enjoyable book for you?
Better flow and avoid repetition of scenes. The heroin acted like an idiot and never learned from her mistakes.
How could the performance have been better?

Historia
A victim killed with a single, precise stab to the heart appears at first glance to be a robbery gone wrong. A caring, upstanding social worker lost to a senseless act of violence. But for Detective Kim Stone, something doesn't add up. When a local drug addict is found murdered with an identical wound, Kim knows instinctively that she is dealing with the same killer. But with nothing to link the two victims except the cold, calculated nature of their death, this could be her most difficult case yet.

Redundant in parts
Revisado: 02-02-17
I've now listened to all the books in the series. This book is not as good as the first four. It's great when the action is fast paced but pretty boring and repetitive on the Alex Thorne psycho babble portions. The character was interesting in Evil Games but just tedious in Blood Lines - just implausible sub plots. I continue to enjoy the Kim Stone character and her team though and look forward to the next in the series. Leave Alex Thorne in jail though. 😄

Tedious
Revisado: 01-10-17
I bought books 1-4 in the series and have to say the only one I've enjoyed was book 1. This one was the third and I don't think I'll even bother starting with the 4th. I've already returned book 2 and will be returning the last 2 as well. Too much drama- the character Josephine Tey is a jumble of contradiction- one minute resolute and busting with integrity the next playing fast and loose with the truth. Really irritating! Bah! Narrator was great though!

Revisado: 01-02-17
I enjoyed the first 2 books but this one left an awful lot to be desired. Plot is somewhat of a buffet with OK portions but really did not jell as a whole. I already bought the next 2 books so here's hoping they are better than this one.

Historia
When Santa Claus is a cop, you better watch out. It’s not looking like a very merry Christmas for San Diego cop Nick Pappas. Suspended from his job, alienated from his family, and persecuted by the press, he’s sorely tempted to turn his gun on himself. Except for his first name, he couldn’t possibly have less in common with jolly old St. Nicholas. But when a local mall decides it needs a secret Santa to help collar some vicious muggers preying on its holiday shoppers, Nick’s persuaded to red-suit up so as to take the naughty punks down and avert a ho-ho homicide.

Historia
Two words: the bullet. That's all it takes to shatter her life. Caroline Cashion is beautiful, intelligent, a professor of French literature. But in a split second, everything she's known is proved to be a lie. A single bullet, gracefully tapered at one end, is found lodged at the base of her skull. Caroline is stunned. It makes no sense: She has never been shot. She has no entry wound, no scar. Then, over the course of one awful evening, she learns the truth.

Fell apart in the second half
Revisado: 07-25-16
Plot sounded OK and book started fine but the character development of main character was pretty lame. And the last half was total fantasy - just not plausible at all. Good thing the book cost only $4.95.
