All that a President holds in their work.

President Obama’s recall of details combined with fabulous storytelling made this book all that it promised to be. Glad I completed it at a time such as this. Just post our 2024 election.

Historia
In the aftermath of the 2020 presidential election, Donald Trump and many around him, including certain other elected Republican officials, intentionally breached their oath to the Constitution: they ignored the rulings of dozens of courts, plotted to overturn a lawful election, and provoked a violent attack on our Capitol.

While I don’t agree with her position on most policies, I have incredible respect and admiration for her willingness to stand tall and firm in the truth and to use her voice and influence to break through the noise. Reading this book in 2024 felt like a novel yet knowing it to be true left a sense of shock that our country has come to this. We are certainly better than this. Thank you, Liz Cheney. Thank you.

Historia
You'll never see leadership the same way again after reading this book. These 15 commitments are a distillation of decades of work with CEOs and other leaders. They are radical or provocative for many. They have been game changers for us and for our clients. We trust they will be for you too. Our experience is that unconscious leadership is not sustainable. It won't work for you, your team, or your organization in the long term.

Disappointed
Revisado: 05-28-24
The title of this book, along with who recommended it to me, made me beyond hopeful that it would capture my attention and resonate with me in a very good way. I was very disappointed.
Many of the 15 committee focused on communication, which is one important aspect of leadership. However there are many more that were not included in this book.
Additionally, I believe the book would be far better with less commitments. With some effort the 15 could be aggregated to 5 or 6 which would make them more powerful and easier to apply.
And there was at least one statement of utter supremacy that made me shudder because someone who I know and has read the book has said that thing out loud and directed it to me, a woman of color. Sadly, the authors pretty much lost me then and there.
I could go on but I won’t.

Lead More, Control Less describes eight essential skills for establishing a culture of autonomy and self-leadership. Using examples and case studies, Weisbord and Janoff describe how leaders can share responsibility, defuse group conflicts, show everyone the big picture, and more. With this approach, leaders truly gain more control by giving it up.

Future search is a process inclusive of many elements and this book describes one of them in many dimensions. Leadership.
Discussed out of context to the other elements of organizational transformation made it difficult to discern the points of integration and ultimately the impact of successful implementation.
On their own, the points were well taken but as a part of a bigger ecosystem shift, I found them to be helpful hints or reminders but not game-changers.

Historia
Young Hiram Walker was born into bondage. When his mother was sold away, Hiram was robbed of all memory of her - but was gifted with a mysterious power. Years later, when Hiram almost drowns in a river, that same power saves his life. This brush with death births an urgency in Hiram and a daring scheme: to escape from the only home he’s ever known. So begins an unexpected journey that takes Hiram from the corrupt grandeur of Virginia’s proud plantations to desperate guerrilla cells in the wilderness, from the coffin of the South to dangerously idealistic movements in the North.

Beautifully written. Imaginative yet real. Real yet imaginative. Familiar and rhythmic. Rich and haunting. Freeing.
