Just when I thought I could not love Amari and this series more, the author takes us on a second nail biting adventure. It’s a masterpiece in its own right and in sobering and age appropriate way deals with themes of belonging and supportive friendships. My only critique is that I am now stuck in FOMO purgatory until the next one.

Started reading the book because i thought it would be like Harry Potter - and yes you will get your fill of magic and adventure. A positive surprise was how well the author describes the insecurities and need of belonging of a teenager in a realistic way. The emotional journey and development of the main character makes her very relatable and believable. Even the villain is multi-fasted and relatable. This book is great for both teens and adults. I cannot wait for the sequel!!

The build up of the book is slow while you get to discover the magical parallel world of wizards and TJs teen life in L.A . I found the beginning too teen fictiony and unrelatble to me as an adult, but glad I stuck with the book past the first 5 chapters. It turns into a beautiful adventure about perseverance, loosing a loved one and friendship. I cant wait for the sequel !!
