Historia
Ike Randolph has been out of jail for fifteen years, with not so much as a speeding ticket in all that time. But a Black man with cops at the door knows to be afraid. The last thing he expects to hear is that his son Isiah has been murdered, along with Isiah’s white husband, Derek. Ike had never fully accepted his son but is devastated by his loss. Derek’s father Buddy Lee was almost as ashamed of Derek for being gay as Derek was ashamed his father was a criminal. Buddy Lee still has contacts in the underworld, though, and he wants to know who killed his boy.

Great Characters, Strong Story, Winning Narration
Revisado: 03-24-22
I loved this book. There is an authenticity and grounded quality to the characters and dialogue that carries the plot forward. I felt like I knew these people. Their believability propelled their actions and kept me listening. I loved the narration, too. The whole package just works. 5 stars across the board. Well worth the listen.

Historia
NASA is about to launch Apollo 18. While the mission has been billed as a scientific one, flight controller Kazimieras "Kaz" Zemeckis knows there is a darker objective. Intelligence has discovered a secret Soviet space station spying on America, and Apollo 18 may be the only chance to stop it. But as Kaz races to keep the NASA crew one step ahead of their Russian rivals, a deadly accident reveals that not everyone involved is who they were thought to be. With political stakes stretched to the breaking point, the White House and the Kremlin can only watch as their astronauts collide.

Tom Clancy meets Andy Weir - Worth the read..
Revisado: 01-23-22
I decided to listen to this after reading a comment from Andy Weir, and it certainly delivered. Technically and historically sound, well written, suspenseful and entertaining. Almost as good as the Martian.

Historia
She was once the world's youngest self-made female billionaire. Now Elizabeth Holmes, founder of the blood-testing startup Theranos, stands accused of leading a massive fraud, and lying to investors, doctors, and patients about the capabilities of her technology. If convicted, she faces up to 20 years in prison. But Elizabeth may be able to sway a jury with her charisma, highly unusual defense strategy and the fact that key evidence has gone missing. John Carreyrou broke the Theranos scandal. Now he’ll take you into the courtroom as he examines Silicon Valley’s fake it-til-you-make it ...

Better than any fiction you can read.
Revisado: 09-04-21
I have been following the Theranos story for quite a while, and have been continuously amazed at the volume of evidence of fraud and deceit this author and others are still uncovering. The picture of this self-entitled, narcissistic, 19 year old defrauding wealthy old men is not near as frightening as her callous indifference to the patients who received (and made healthcare decisions based on) faulty, inaccurate blood tests. The picture of big business this reveals is frightening. When a pretty girl can cosplay herself into running a 9 billion dollar startup, we know Silicon Valley is in trouble.
As for the Svengali defense, it is an insult to abused women everywhere that she would present this as an excuse and justification for her crimes. I can only hope jurors see through the 10 figure legal team's defense arguments and convict her. sending her to prison for a couple of decades is likely the only chance her little girl will have to be raised with a moral compass.
Kudos to John Carreyrou and his team for his stories in the WSJ, his book and this excellent podcast.

Historia
Ryland Grace is the sole survivor on a desperate, last-chance mission - and if he fails, humanity and the Earth itself will perish. Except that right now, he doesn't know that. He can't even remember his own name, let alone the nature of his assignment or how to complete it. All he knows is that he's been asleep for a very, very long time. And he's just been awakened to find himself millions of miles from home, with nothing but two corpses for company.

Made Me Laugh Out Loud....
Revisado: 07-11-21
A dose of science with every plot twist, an adorable alien (who could NOT like Rocky?), and wonderful dialogue. Ray Porter is an expertat making it all come alive. Altogether well worth the listen/read.
