Historia
A third-generation Jehovah's Witness, Amber Scorah had devoted her life to sounding God's warning of impending Armageddon. She volunteered to take the message to China, where the preaching she did was illegal and could result in her expulsion or worse. Here, she had some distance from her community for the first time. Immersion in a foreign language and culture - and a whole new way of thinking - turned her world upside down, and eventually led her to lose all that she had been sure was true.

Historia
Kate Reddy had it all: a nice home, two adorable kids, a good husband. Then her kids became teenagers (read: monsters). She's facing her 50th birthday; her mother and in-laws are in precarious health; and her husband is having a midlife crisis that leaves her desperate to restart her career after years away from the workplace. Kate is scrambling to keep all the balls in the air in a juggling act that an early review from the UK Express hailed as "sparkling, funny, and poignant...a triumphant return for Pearson."

Great story; horrific American accents
Revisado: 08-09-18
Loved this book so much! It was awesome revisiting Kate’s journey.
Narrator had two key American characters but gave them identical voices/accents which was confusing and REALLY dampened the mood of the story!!!

Historia
Bernadette Fox is notorious. To her Microsoft-guru husband, she's a fearlessly opinionated partner; to fellow private-school mothers in Seattle, she's a disgrace; to design mavens, she's a revolutionary architect, and to 15-year-old Bee, she is a best friend and, simply, Mom.
Then Bernadette disappears. It began when Bee aced her report card and claimed her promised reward: a family trip to Antarctica. But Bernadette's intensifying allergy to Seattle - and people in general - has made her so agoraphobic that a virtual assistant in India now runs her most basic errands.

Fantastic narrator! Well-paced novel with very sympathetic and dynamic characters—I couldn’t stop listening!!! alas, the ending left me confused about who ended up with whom. Or was that the point? Meh.

Love narrator; poor book layout
Revisado: 09-12-17
Author narrates the book and does an excellent job. Her personal story is extremely compelling, as is the science behind her rule. But the book spends WAY too much time sharing her conversations to and from her Facebook fans, whose experiences with the rule may or may not have even happened. A true journalist would vet those testimonials for accuracy first, rather than filling an entire book with them, because we all know how many social media accounts are just bot-troll-fans looking for attention from celebs like this author. The addition of so many social media posts and conversations from the author's Facebook page cost this book three stars from my rating.

Fab book with a talented but ill-fitting narrator
Revisado: 10-21-16
The book was delightful (as are all Kinsella's titles--extremely workout-worthy!!), but the narrator, though I LOVE her in other British books I have heard, is way too old to play the voice of Becky B. She made her sound very middle-aged and masculine, and ALL the men sound the same- LuKe and all the rich guys sound identical, while the dudes from the poor side of London all had the exact same voice, too, so in one scene where they all end up in a room together, I couldn't tell any of them apart, lol. The worst was poor Becky, though--I kept picturing her as a 45 year-old, thanks to this narrator's deep, husky voice. I sure hope that subsequent titles go back to using the narrators with brighter, younger-sounding voices that fit Becky's personality!!

Book, fantastic, narrator ok but better suited for elderly characters
Revisado: 07-07-16
This has to be my favorite chick lit love story ever; it was a fantastic build-up and thrilling, suspense-filled ride clear up until the end!
But I don't recommend the audio version, as the narrator had a raspy voice with an elderly timbre that had me picturing sixty-somethings the entire time, and much of the hero and heroine's repartee takes place via cell phone texts, which doesn't work when you are imagining elderly characters! But this narrator just made them sound SO old that I couldn't help it, lol!

Historia
Six days ago, astronaut Mark Watney became one of the first people to walk on Mars. Now, he's sure he'll be the first person to die there. After a dust storm nearly kills him and forces his crew to evacuate while thinking him dead, Mark finds himself stranded and completely alone with no way to even signal Earth that he's alive - and even if he could get word out, his supplies would be gone long before a rescue could arrive. Chances are, though, he won't have time to starve to death. The damaged machinery, unforgiving environment, or plainold "human error" are much more likely to kill him first.

WAY too preachy, even for Christian Lit
Revisado: 05-05-10
I'm a huge fan of Christian books, but this one spent soooo much time detailing one of the main character's conversions that I ended up listening to a 20 minute sermon, instead of the plot, story, and characters I had hoped to her from. No dialogue, no flashbacks--nothing but this one character going on and on and on about coming to Jesus. I'm a very devout woman, but come on already!

History + Fluff = Bad Chick Lit
Revisado: 04-24-10
This novel pretends to be an historical mystery that sheds light on an actual historical event (the horrendous deportment of French Jews to Auschwitz), but within a few chapters, the book became so entrenched in shallow cliches that it completely lost my interest.
The sentences are all the same--subject verb combos that repeat page after page like a bad children's book: "I wondered . . . I thought . . . I feared . . . I decided to."
The main character is the weakest in a long line of limp cliches: the philandering French husband (who is still hot and virile after 40), the two gay man friends, the spunky matron to whom she turns for advice, and the glib interior decorator.
While inserting sad, slow historical anecdotes, this book flashes forward to a set of wealthy Frenchies (and one expat American) whose biggest worries are infidelity, career, and apartment decor, and they couldn't hold my attention long enough to find out if by book's end they grow up and start to care about anything other than themselves.
I sure wish Audible let us return unlistened-to audiobooks, because I never finished listening to this overly-drivelly novel. F-bombs and tired cliches do not good reading make.
