Historia
When private detective Agatha Raisin comes across a severed leg in a roadside hedge, it looks like she is about to become involved in a particularly gruesome murder. Looks, however, can be deceiving, as Agatha discovers when she is employed to investigate a case of industrial espionage at a factory where nothing is quite what it seems. The factory mystery soon turns to murder and a bad-tempered donkey turns Agatha into a national celebrity, before bringing her ridicule and shame.

Historia
Nancy Wake, nicknamed 'the white mouse' for her ability to evade capture, tells her own story. As the Gestapo's most wanted person, and one of the most highly decorated servicewomen of the war, it's a story worth telling. After living and working in Paris in the 1930's, Nancy married a wealthy Frenchman and settled in Marseilles. Her idyllic new life was ended by World War II and the invasion of France. Her life shattered, Nancy joined the French Resistance and, later, began work with an escape-route network for Allied soldiers.

Astounding and Incredible
Revisado: 07-29-23
I became interested in hearing about the women of WWII after hearing that my grandmother, the purchasing director of a large arsenal, could build bombe snd knew the ingredients to do so. And she was only State-side. I then heard more stories from an older friend who is a WWII veteran. He is officially a centenarian and was leading groups to Normandy, until 2017, to recover the remains and belongings of family members who perished there, courtesy of a charitable group created for that reason. I had to learn more about the women who were there, fighting alongside the resistance and Allied soldiers against the Nazis, the Vichy and even their friends and neighbors.
I read “Code Name: Hélène” first, about Nancy Wake. It is a quite accurate historical novel with only a few liberties, which she shares in the Epilogue.
I just had to know more about this fascinating, strong, exuberant woman who lived life with gusto on her own terms!
This is her story, told many years later. Based on the other books written about her, this is more like an old friend regaling you with memories and anecdotes of their past without delving too deep, but which corroborates quite a bit of the info in “Code Name Helene”.
There are other titles available about her so I can’t wait to read more!
As for the narrator, I thought she did well. She has the voice and speaking cadence of how I believe Nancy spoke.
I give this book a resounding “YES!”!
