I usually like this author but this story was trite and boring. I’m not sure why this narrator gets so much work as she is truly awful.

An Excellent Translation, A Better Production

I had been waiting for Audible to release a narration of their own for The Odyssey as they always have great production quality and this did not disappoint. Claire Danes was a great choice, I really loved her voice. The translation itself was modern and easy to follow. I felt Emily Wilson was true to the text but, of course, made it her own. I liked that she pointed out sections that she had done differently and why she had written them that way. The NYT article that was written about this is also good to read. Would recommend to anyone who enjoys a classic tale.

Wanting More, Hoping Nothing More is Written

Once again another excellent continuation of the series. At the end of each, when the resolution has taken place, a small part of myself wishes for nothing more to be written about Harry Hole so that he doesn't suffer all over again in a new book. The ending for this was particularly enjoyable. The plot twists are numerous and you never quite see who the killer ends up being until they're revealed. John Lee can't replace Robin Sachs but the narration was still good. I didn't find it tough to listen to as others have mentioned but it can be hard to get used to a different narration of characters. Highly recommend for fans of the series.

This was the first book I had listened to by Stephen King. I had attempted to read others but had never managed to finish them. The intro was a bit slow but it picked up, and by the end, I found I had enjoyed it. The narration was excellent. I'd recommend this if you are a fan of King or want to try out a reasonable length audiobook from him.

A quick read that addresses a number of themes, Twain's Feast gives a remarkable picture of Mark Twain's life through the food he loved. It felt like an extended podcast and although the chapters are related they are best listened to in short succession. I enjoyed the different narrators and the live recordings on-scene; Offerman makes an excellent Twain. I think this could have been better as a longer piece. Each chapter attempted to tackle a subject that could have been broken into multiple parts. Overall a nice listen, especially during the holiday season.

I didn't expect to like this one as well as The Snowman and The Leopard, the first third was not all that impressive and I didn't care much for the characters involved. The ending, however, was stellar, I honestly didn't see it coming. I wish more of the old characters had stronger roles, as the previous novel had set up a good cast. As a result, this one took me a bit longer to get into but by the end, I was hooked. Phantom seemed more personal for Harry and that aspect was compelling. Robin Sachs again was excellent, it's sad he won't be narrating any more of these.

Jo Nesbo follows through with another excellent installment in the series. The books keep getting better. Secondary characters shine in this one with some new additions to the police force as well as old favorites. The plot is as good as ever with plenty of twists and Robin Sachs is the perfect Harry Hole. If you've enjoyed any of the others in the series you'll love this one.

An immersive story with vivid description. Snow Falling on Cedars presents the sentiments felt for Japanese Americas after WWII and the difficulties they faced in their own country. The book reads and feels modern even though it takes place after the second world war. It doesn't seem outdated and the characters and their emotions are engaging. It sometimes takes me a bit to ramp up into a George Guidall narration but he always delivers in the end. Certainly a great modern novel.

Forster packs an impressive amount of emotion and character development into his story. It was a refreshing, quick read that I found hard to put down, I’d rank this right up there with other novels of early 20th century that I’ve read. A thought provoking read and a wonderful listen. Rebecca Hall was perfect for the roll, all her characters hit the mark. Highly recommended.

I enjoyed this Hardy book more than Tess of the D'Urbervilles although it has the same style of tragedy. Certain characters are fated to suffer it seems. Not the happiest story you will ever read, but worthwhile all the same. Alan Rickman does a wonderful job and it is easy to get lost in the story while listening to him. It's a shame he was unable to narrate more.
