OK I can’t even make it past the second chapter here
Revisado: 01-18-23
I am a huge, true crime fanatic, and I try to pick which books I read very carefully because I don’t need a lot of flowery extra details that the author could possibly have known like how someone’s face is as blank as the blue Virginia sky. I totally get the need to do things like reconstruct conversations, but I cannot stand when a book is written like fiction, and the author is literally saying what people are thinking and exactly what their expressions are like, and using other annoying analogies. Of all the books that I have listened to. I have stopped two of them when I just could not deal with the writing anymore.. I am guilty of not writing reviews, even for the most fabulous books. I just want you to know before you use the credit that this is written like a fiction book. If you want straight to the point, descriptions and situations this may not be the right book for you. So maybe in the future, if I am totally desperate and have zero credits, I will give it another try, but I just can’t at the moment. I can’t even really give it an accurate number of stars since I can’t make it through. I am sure it’s an interesting story so I will give it the benefit of the doubt with regards to story. The narrator is good.

A must read
Revisado: 11-12-22
I often prefer the lengthy books with all of the background information on all of the people involved. This is not that book. It’s written by the prosecutor and he is right to the point. The case is more bizarre then what was on 20/20. I literally called my mom and was like “you must read this immediately. The sheer lunacy will astound you.” Five stars. Wish this guy had more insane cases so I could hear more from him.

Historia
On October 24, 1890, a woman's mutilated and lifeless body was discovered on a pile of rubbish in Hampstead, North London. Her arms were lacerated, her face crushed and bloodied, and her head almost completely severed from her body. A mile away a blood-soaked stroller was found leaning against a residential gate. The dead baby's body, hidden beneath a nettle bush, was not located until the following morning. So began the incredible story of the Hampstead Tragedy.

Very well researched
Revisado: 11-16-21
I honestly wasn’t expecting TOO much because I’m not that interested in older crime stories, but I was really surprised to find myself interested. It was really thoroughly researched. I had no problem with the narrator’s style; I dislike a ton of inflection and when the narrator tries to “do a voice” and I prefer just to hear the facts and conversations that are known and recorded rather than extra stuff like “she took a deep breath and looked out the window at the dew on the grass..” if you like things to read like a novel then you will probably dislike this., but I liked it a lot and found myself conflicted about the alleged murderess.

Interesting story
Revisado: 09-02-21
The author definitely gave life to Susan despite hers having been taken. It’s not a whodunit book which is fine. I appreciated that the narrator didn’t try to lower her voice when speaking something said by a man in the book. That seriously gets on my nerves. She was very frank narrating and I think she did a good job, though if you prefer to hear different voices from the narrator you’ll probably find it a little monotonous.

Historia
It was a bleak November in 2012 when Cari Lea Farver vanished from Omaha, Nebraska. Cari, 37, was a devoted mother, reliable employee, and loyal friend - not the type to shirk responsibilities, abandon her son, and run off on an adventure while her dying father took his last breaths. Yet, the many texts from her phone indicated she had done just that. While Cari's boyfriend, Dave Kroupa, and her supervisor were bewildered by her abrupt disappearance, they accepted the texts at face value. Her mother, Nancy Raney, however, was alarmed and reported Cari missing.

Fascinating and bizarre
Revisado: 09-11-20
Leslie takes after her mother with this one. I kept seeing it come up as a suggestion and I was thinking it didn’t look that interesting. Then I decided to give it a try and wow! The narrator sounded much like an operator on a recorded phone tree at first, but as the book got more intense the narration got better. It was like the narrator was getting into the story with me. When it started I was not impressed with the narration. If you aren’t, don’t give up! I’m not going to get into all the details, you can read that in the summary. Basically it’s insane and fascinating!
