Historia
In A Change of Affection, Becket Cook shares his testimony as someone who was transformed by the power of the Gospel. His dramatic conversion to Christianity and subsequent seminary training inform his views on homosexuality - personally, biblically, theologically, and culturally - and his compelling audiobook guides listeners through this complex and controversial issue while revealing how to lovingly engage with those who disagree.

Great testimony and simple, confident, humble response that corresponds well to Scripture’s word on this topic.

I’ve already recommended this book to friends, along with Gay Girl Good God. These are truthful yet disarming books and I’m glad for their witness.

Come inside a jury room as one juror leads a starkly divided room to consensus. Join a young CIA officer as he recruits a reluctant foreign agent. And sit with an accomplished surgeon as he tries, and fails, to convince yet another cancer patient to opt for the less risky course of treatment. In Supercommunicators, Charles Duhigg blends deep research and his trademark storytelling skills to show how we can all learn to identify and leverage the hidden layers that lurk beneath every conversation.

Helpful way of engaging with others
Revisado: 07-02-24
It was a practical and insightful book especially on how to ask engaging questions for the purpose of connectedness and emotional communication (in a good way).
One thing that was very annoying through about three quarters of the book (maybe it was a social experiment of the author) was the reader would repeat or stutter the first word of a sentence. It was very distracting.

We don't often think about the act of knowing, but if we do, the question of what we know and how we know it becomes murky indeed. Longing to Know is a book about knowing: knowing how we know things, knowing how we know people, and knowing how we know God. This book is for those who are considering Christianity for the first time, as well as Christians who are struggling with issues related to truth, certainty, and doubt. As such, it is a wonderful resource for evangelists, pastors, and counselors.

An accessible, encouraging book on knowledge
Revisado: 05-31-24
It took a few chapters I “felt” for her to get into the meat of what she was getting across, but once she does it was a great experience. I think her model of knowing stands a much greater chance of actually engaging the minds of young people in our culture who are still going through epistemological crises of knowing. There is a realism to her rationale and emotion to her knowledge, which I think is exactly what the topic of philosophy needs a fresh breath of!

Historia
Many people will remember Eric Liddell as the Olympic gold medalist from the Academy Award-winning film Chariots of Fire. Famously, Liddell would not run on Sunday because of his strict observance of the Christian Sabbath, and so he did not compete in his signature event, the 100 meters, at the 1924 Paris Olympics. He was the greatest sprinter in the world at the time, and his choice not to run was ridiculed by the British Olympic committee, his fellow athletes, and most of the world press.

Historia
Douglas MacArthur was arguably the last American public figure to be worshipped unreservedly as a national hero, the last military figure to conjure up the romantic stirrings once evoked by George Armstrong Custer and Robert E. Lee. But he was also one of America's most divisive figures, a man whose entire career was steeped in controversy. Was he an avatar or an anachronism, a brilliant strategist or a vainglorious mountebank?

A clear account of an exceptional life
Revisado: 05-03-24
The book was very thorough in presenting a clear form of a man who made mistakes along with great victories. He was somewhat of a last of his breed of soldier and his views on what America’s stance should have been in the Pacific from the 30’s to the 60’s was very keen, though he was a bit unruly in his execution of tasks at time. A great book.

Incredible job by the author on taking so much information and making it read like a novel. It was engaging and he did a good job simply presenting what happened and the views of the many sides of the north and the more singular side of the south.

Historia
At one time, Corrie ten Boom would have laughed at the idea that she had a story to tell. For the first 50 years of her life, nothing out of the ordinary ever happened to her. She was a spinster watchmaker living contentedly with her sister and their elderly father in the tiny house over their shop in Haarlem. Their uneventful days, as regulated as their own watches, revolved around their abiding love for one another. But with the Nazi invasion and occupation of Holland, everything changed....

A family filled with poise and prayer, each one always encouraging the other to more love and thankfulness. Though half the story is in a dark place during a dark time, light radiates from Corrie’s pen of remembrance of her life and family.

Historia
Following its initial appearance in serial form, Stephen Crane's The Red Badge of Courage was published as a complete work in 1895 and quickly became the benchmark for modern antiwar literature. In the character of Henry Flemming, Stephen Crane provides a great and realistic study of the mind of an inexperienced soldier trapped in the fury and turmoil of war. Flemming dashes into battle, at first tormented by fear, then bolstered with courage in time for the final confrontation.
