Unfortunate Narrator Selection
Revisado: 07-11-21
Uffff. Who picked this narrator why does she punctuate the last word in *every* sentence?? Honestly, I made it about 5 minutes in before I had to turn it off. No one speaks in that cadence, never mind narrates a whole book in such a stilted way. Seemed like a good book but I can’t listen to it. I wish I had read the reviews before because most people seem to feel the same way.

Historia
Anne Gallagher grew up enchanted by her grandfather’s stories of Ireland. Heartbroken at his death, she travels to his childhood home to spread his ashes. There, overcome with memories of the man she adored and consumed by a history she never knew, she is pulled into another time. The Ireland of 1921, teetering on the edge of war, is a dangerous place in which to awaken. But there Anne finds herself, hurt, disoriented, and under the care of Dr. Thomas Smith, guardian to a young boy who is oddly familiar.

I Loved This Audiobook!
Revisado: 03-08-21
I really love these two narrators (and I’m usually extremely picky about narrators). Both drew me in entirely. I’m an American so I can’t speak to how speak to how good or bad the Irish accents really were but they sounded perfectly fine to me.
The story is also so good. It starts off a bit slow but the love story is wonderful. Is it an “Irish Outlander”? Sure, kind of. Still, it was well written and had me tearing up (a lot). I’m also now very curious about Irish history. I highly recommend!

Who Selected This Nararator??
Revisado: 02-22-21
I listen to different audiobooks every day and this one stopped me in my tracks - and not in a good way. I’m sure it’s a good story but I’ll never know because after about 5 minutes I had to take my headphones out. I’ve come across my share of ify narrator choices in other audio books, but this was the worst by far. Her voice is so bad, I had to wonder about the person who hired her because no one in their right mind would pick this girl thinking she was honestly a good choice. Really disappointed to pass on this book. It seems like a good story.

Historia
Years ago, Flora fled the quiet Scottish island where she grew up - and she hasn't looked back. What would have done on Mure? It's a place where everyone has known her all her life, where no one will let her forget the past. In bright, bustling London, she can be anonymous, ambitious...and hopelessly in love with her boss. But when fate brings Flora back to the island, she's suddenly swept once more into life with her brothers - all strapping, loud, and seemingly incapable of basic housework - and her father.

Great Story
Revisado: 02-02-21
This was my first Jenny Colgan book and I’m hooked on the author! I love how she writes and can’t wait to listen to more of her books.
I also liked the narrator a lot and could listen to her forever. I will say her American accents of the therapist and his wife were unbelievable bad (I’m an American living in NYC and have never heard anything she was shooting for) but luckily those two caracteres had brief speaking parts.
In short, I highly recommend this book to anyone who wants a fun light listen or read!

Grant to Steve Jobs - a formula that let them turn obstacles into opportunities. Faced with impossible situations, they found the astounding triumphs we all seek.

I should have read the reviews first.
Revisado: 10-24-20
I really wanted to like this book because I kept seeing it everywhere and it seemed interesting, but it was so incredibly difficult listening to the narrator. He drones on and on like he’s just reading words on a page half bored. I couldn’t finish the book (despite realllly trying to and getting nearly to the end) because my frustration with his voice and tone would actually put me in a bad mood.
I read the reviews later wondering if it was just me and was shocked to see so many similar comments - and then I found out the narrator was actually the AUTHOR. What a disservice to your own work.
As far as the content, I found it barely insightful or new. The title really is all you need to read.

Great Little Gem of Short Stories
Revisado: 12-15-19
This book is fantastic and my favorite thing about it is that it offers interesting and unique relationship insights from a doctor. I’ve been listening to it as I travel during the holidays and find the narrator to be really engaging. I think both men and women would like the quirky short stories and great range of characters!
