Historia
Eight years ago, the Sorcerer Void saved Emily's life. To Emily, Void became, in so many ways, the father she'd never had. And yet Void kept a secret from her. To save the Allied Lands from themselves, to keep them from being destroyed by the necromancers or torn apart by their short-sighted rulers, he embarked on a plan to launch a coup and reunite the long-dead empire, a plan that can only end in total war or a permanent living death. He must be stopped. And now, all that stands between him and his goal is his adopted daughter, Emily herself.

Good story with jarring narration
Revisado: 01-01-20
An interesting entry in the litrpg genre, whit the twist that the protagonist is playing the game therapeutically while his very advanced age is treated medically.
I liked the characters and stories, but having an English-accent narrator (and some English idioms) in a book about an American veteran, set in Tennessee, was jarring. Also there were occasional silly sound effects which were distracting.
Would have been a good story for an RC Bray type narrator.

Milton Frederick was arguably the best player of Crowned Lieges of Destiny in the entire world. As the strategy coordinator for one of the top guilds, he was beginning to actually make a living from it. That was, until he was abducted by aliens. Severely damaged and confused about what happened to him, he woke up to find himself trapped inside a massive chicken egg on a strange, primitive world filled with curious - and deadly - creatures. Now, in order to survive, Milton has to rely on a snarky, foul-mouthed AI guide to show him what it means to be a Station Core.

Fun story idea damaged by stats recitals
Revisado: 11-06-19
This is an rpg story. The issue is constant recitals of boring stats columns and repetition of game menus. Every chapter starts with several minutes of this. It is too much and is not suitable for an audiobook.

Tedious re-hash
Revisado: 07-28-15
It became tiresome to go over and over 'Morgan's hold' and sing the song again and again. Felt like filler. The love interest was tedious as well. Fun stuff with the genies and the action parts of the story though.

Historia
Six days ago, astronaut Mark Watney became one of the first people to walk on Mars. Now, he's sure he'll be the first person to die there. After a dust storm nearly kills him and forces his crew to evacuate while thinking him dead, Mark finds himself stranded and completely alone with no way to even signal Earth that he's alive - and even if he could get word out, his supplies would be gone long before a rescue could arrive. Chances are, though, he won't have time to starve to death. The damaged machinery, unforgiving environment, or plainold "human error" are much more likely to kill him first.

A return to hard science fiction
Revisado: 04-14-13
If you could sum up The Martian in three words, what would they be?
Terrifically real characters
What other book might you compare The Martian to and why?
Robinson Crusoe, because it is about one resourceful individual surviving alone
What does R. C. Bray bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?
His characterization of Mark Watney was terrific- capturing the sense of humor, focus, and purposeful action of the stranded engineer/astronaut. He was also great with the engineer characters back at JPL. His tone and rhythm ring true to the engineers I work with.
Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?
Laugh! And I couldnt stop listening. One of the best audio books I have heard in a long time.

Too much blah blah blah
Revisado: 06-05-10
I really, really wanted to like this book, as I have been enjoying the series so far, and I like David Weber's work.
This book felt cobbled together from bursts of writing to an outline. Very repetitive descriptions, multiple times, of events from previous books (a simple prologue would be cleaner). A tiresome amount of weepy sentimentality over casualties in the warfare segment. Way too many characters with dialogue for exposition rather than action. When the action finally, finally happens... in the last 30 minutes... it is sketched over hastily with the emphasis on how tragic it all is.
Also, irritating amounts of errors in the sea battles where the Charisian ships are referred to as Doloran.
Really, it felt like the editors were in Tahiti on this one. A third of a book stretched out to 3 books length.
