Historia
Eighteen-year-old Celaena Sardothien is bold, daring and beautiful - the perfect seductress and the greatest assassin her world has ever known. But though she won the king’s contest and became his champion, Celaena has been granted neither her liberty nor the freedom to follow her heart. Celaena faces a choice that is tearing her to pieces: kill in cold blood for a man she hates or risk sentencing those she loves to death.

Historia
I’m supposed to be the last of my kind, all-powerful, and marked by prophecy for greatness. But, something, somewhere, must have gone wrong, because I have no power or greatness. The prophecy must be about my sister, the only other living being with our kind's blood in her veins, but she's been in a magical sleep for eight years and is slowly turning to stone. I will do anything to save her, but the answers I need are inside Poseidon’s underwater palace. The fiercely powerful ocean god rules his realm with brutal efficiency, and nobody is ever allowed to get close to him.

the world building is a lot of work. cool, but a lot of work. I attempted this book 3 times over 3 years, and finally completed it. I wanted a flow chart to help keep things straight for the first half of the book. The slow burn is real slow. if you're expecting "resolution" on the romance front, it never comes.
I'm glad I read it, but will never read it again.

this book is subtly enthralling, and incredibly peaceful. this is a page turner in that you want to stay in the world out of curiosity, not because it holds you in its grips. Very peaceful.

Historia
Picking up from A Discovery of Witches' cliff-hanger ending, Shadow of Night takes reluctant witch Diana Bishop and vampire geneticist Matthew Clairmont on a trip through time to Elizabethan London, where they are plunged into a world of spies, magic, and a coterie of Matthew's old friends, the School of Night. As the search for Ashmole 782—the lost and enchanted manuscript whose mystery first pulled Diana and Matthew into one another's orbit—deepens and Diana seeks out a witch to tutor her in magic, the net of Matthew's past tightens around them.

And ever since being forced into the Cauldron and becoming High Fae against her will, she's struggled to find a place for herself within the strange, deadly world she inhabits. Historia
Nora knows she needs to move on. And forget about magic. She's back in graduate school, and her life is going surprisingly well. She doesn't need to think about other worlds, about enchantments and demons, or about magicians - even though she once aspired to become one herself. Most of all, she really should forget the magician Aruendiel, who shared the secrets of magic with her but fiercely guarded the deepest secrets of his heart. Then a chance encounter gives Nora the opportunity to slip between worlds again - and the next phase of her magical education begins.

so, so bad.
Revisado: 08-26-21
This book goes absolutely nowhere. The plot twists are unbelievable- truly. Nothing in this story makes any kind of sense. There are poorly developed characters galore, along with incredibly long diatribes on for no reason other than to satiate publisher word count deadlines, I'm assuming.
If you like the first book, don't bother with this.

Like Visiting Another Life
Revisado: 08-12-21
This is a world building escape from reality. The ending is poetic without being cliche, and I appreciate it.
I don't this will be a book that I return to soon, because I feel like I lived it- like I tried another life on.
I would recommend this book to anyone looking to slow down and simply appreciate another world.

Understanding
Revisado: 07-21-21
My biggest issue is that the main character is so clueless he is the most powerful person. yet he continues to cry and makes stupid decisions against the advice of other people including his parents. I see this in so many books it's insane. I can see making a bad choice but to keep building it until something goes so backwards that you end up just wanting the character to be killed off. So many of the other characters have strength s and make mistakes but they learn and move forward, and turns out better and better for them.
