The Saxon on the Blacktop!!
Revisado: 09-19-21
Even through all these books and story arcs, this author is still wonderfully inventive and creative. The cheer-out-loud moments are still there. The characters are as clever and funny as ever, and the humor never seems forced or contrived. Makes me think that Haywood and the people in his life must also be so clever and funny!
Joe Jameson? Great as ever. So many voices. He’s the kind of reader that has you searching for new books by narrator.

Historia
The collapse of The Flow, the interstellar pathway between the planets of the Interdependency, has accelerated. Entire star systems - and billions of people - are becoming cut off from the rest of human civilization. This collapse was foretold through scientific prediction...and yet, even as the evidence is obvious and insurmountable, many still try to rationalize, delay and profit from, these final days of one of the greatest empires humanity has ever known.

Scalzi. Wheaton. Kiva F******G Lagos.
Revisado: 04-25-20
When an author and reader play to each other's strengths (dialogue, accents, emotion...), we get something more meaningful than just a great read. Thanks to both Scalzi and Wheaton for another great ride. I loved these characters with all my heart, and found myself re-reading (or re-playing) many bits of dialogue because they were so well-written and well-read. Word choice is key here, and Scalzi is a master.
Not only do we get the usual magnificent tapestries of profanity (thank you, Lady Kiva), but nothing ever comes off as 'stilted.' That is really refreshing in the sci-fi genre.
And I'm sorry, Wil Wheaton, but you may be getting calls from the rest of my family about me imitating Tomas Reynauld Chenevert around the house for days on end. I tell dem it is not my fault. You are found out!
If you pumped your fist along with Cardenia's 'consuming fire' speech from the 2nd book, there is more good stuff like that here. Wheaton's pace and inflection are great once again, and I wish more readers put as much into their work.

Wonderful. Same as always.
Revisado: 09-03-19
Another treat from a damn good storyteller. I don’t know many other authors who can present such a large body of work that unfailingly leaves the reader laughing, cheering, and fully engaged until the end of each book. Haywood’s strength as a storyteller exists not only in the enjoyable banter of the characters, but also in the simple fact that he does *not* kill off dearly-loved characters left-and-right. Many authors that rely on that cheap trick far too often, and I refuse to accept it as ‘emotional engagement’ with the story.
Joe Jameson has now become my favorite reader. What power he has with different voices, timing, and tone.
