Historia
Lila Kennedy has a lot on her plate. A broken marriage, two wayward daughters, a house that is falling apart, and an elderly stepfather who seems to have quietly moved in. Her career is in freefall and her love life is . . . complicated. So when her real dad—a man she has barely seen since he ran off to Hollywood thirty-five years ago—suddenly appears on her doorstep, it feels like the final straw. But it turns out even the family you thought you could never forgive might have something to teach you: about love, and what it actually means to be family.

Revisado: 03-14-25
Great work by Jojo Moyes yet again! This book had great character development and storyline. I really enjoyed it and it felt like a really good romcom from the the early 2000s!

Bad Narrator & slow story
Revisado: 02-14-25
The story was very slow and repetitive. there was like one thing that actually surprised me, but otherwise it was a pretty slow book that had potential. The narrator was so ill suited for this book. Her accents were all over the place in leaned way more southern then Massachusetts.

Historia
Beloved author Elizabeth Gilbert returns to fiction with a unique love story set in the New York City theater world during the 1940s. Told from the perspective of an older woman as she looks back on her youth with both pleasure and regret (but mostly pleasure), City of Girls explores themes of female sexuality and promiscuity, as well as the idiosyncrasies of true love. In 1940, nineteen-year-old Vivian Morris has just been kicked out of Vassar College, owing to her lackluster freshman-year performance.

Engaging, Lighthearted, and Profound
Revisado: 01-19-24
Loved this book! I simultaneously couldn’t put it down but also wanted to stop reading because I didn’t want it to end. It was a lighthearted and enthralling novel that followed the life of Viviane Morris in New York City from the 40s to present. I love books like this - that follow the twists and turns of a person’s life in such dynamic eras of our history. I found it to be engaging and quite funny at times - actually making me laugh out loud, which I am not often do with books. The narrator was perfectly suited for this book; I truly have no notes about the narrator- it was perfect.
It is all about friendships and love, but not in a cliche or forced way. I appreciated the way this story showed how people come in and out of life and can leave such an impact, both positive and negative. I just have a lot of take aways from this book. There were many lessons on things have consequences, how to stay true to yourself, and how to learn from your experiences.
The ending was kind of sad and somber, and that did disappoint me a little. It was a good ending, but just was also had a touch of melancholy. But honestly, that is real life - sometimes things don’t end perfectly, but it doesnt mean it isn’t good or closure.
This has quickly climbed to the top of favorites list.

beautiful story
Revisado: 06-28-23
As many of Morton’s books, it can take a bit to get into them but once you do, they hook you! A beautiful story about family, love, loss, and the complexities of life. It was so well written and the story woven together so beautifully. It kept me guessing throughout.

Perfect!
Revisado: 06-01-23
Honestly a perfect book! Kate Morton’s books can take a few chapters to get into it, but trust me, keep listening! It is a wonderful book with twists and turns. The characters are engaging and complex. Caroline Lee does an incredible narrating, as usual. Overall, a 12/10 book that I would reccomend to anyone!

Loved everything about it!
Revisado: 04-26-23
The story was wonderful. This book was absolutely enthralling - I finished it so fast. It was an easy and interesting listen because it was such a goos story but also not too heavy. Moyes built complex and beautiful characters and she led us through their dynamic journey. I absolutely loved the narrator - I could listen to her read 1000 books (and funnily enough I believe she plays Rey in the most recent Star Wars Trilogy)! but honesty her narrating was excellent.

Beautiful Book
Revisado: 11-21-22
This book was so wonderful. The story was intriguing and so so beautifully written. This was my first Amor Towles book, and it most definitely will not be the last. It was compelling and the characters were so developed, I felt connected to the characters. Also, regardless of the time period to which it was based, it is so relatable for all 20-somethings (who are trying to figure it all out, and not always succeeding but sometimes things working out just as they should)!
The writing is truly exquisite - so stylistic & beautifully said. Also, the narration was perfect for this story - she did a wonderful job.

Sad and Disturbing
Revisado: 09-30-22
I like mysters and psychological thrillers and I liked Lisa Jewell’s other books, so i pick this one up. but i found this book disturbing and hard to read at times. I am writing this books 1.5 years after reading it because I realized I never wrote a review and it still f**ks me up to think about. It was so sad and heartbreaking and made me so angry and truly had no redeeming qualities. Ellie deserved so much more and as did her mother. Just honestly maybe I wasnt in the best head space when I read it but it was a profoundly upsetting book. The hamster part disturbed me especially and I cringe thinking of it. I just really don’t reccomend - there are thousands of better psychological thrillers out there and Liza Jewell has a dozen other books to read before this one.

My first and DEFINITELY NOT LAST Lisa Jewell book!
Revisado: 09-22-22
Such a good book! The narration was incredible, the characters were interesting and complex. I truly never knew where the story was going to go - so many twists & turns. I appreciate the ending too, I love when an author wraps up each character and gives a little epilogue into what they are doing now. The book was truly great!
