Historia
Deep down here by the dark water lived old Gollum, a small slimy creature. I don’t know where he came from, nor who or what he was. He was Gollum—as dark as darkness, except for two big round pale eyes in his thin face. He had a little boat, and he rowed about quite quietly on the lake; for lake it was, wide and deep and deadly cold.

Every performance is so fantastic. And hearing Ian Holm (Bilbo from the movies) play Frodo was an extra treat!

Historia
Lisa Gungor thought she knew her own story: small-town girl meets boy in college and they blissfully walk down the aisle into happily ever after. Their Christian faith was their lens and foundation for everything - their marriage, their music, their dreams for the future. But as their dreams began to come true, she began to wonder if her religion was really representative of the "good news" she had been taught.

One of the most beautiful things I've read .
Revisado: 07-03-19
LOVE. I've loved Gungor for a long time. Beautiful Things was balm to me when I was going through cancer & chemo. It's part of the soundtrack of my family. My boys were in a band that got to open up for them in Cincinnati. For some reason there were about 4 bands opening up for them so by the time they finally hit the stage we practically got a private concert and it is still one of the most beautiful concerts I've ever seen. When our daughter moved to Denver we went to Bloom the first weekend in their search for a church home. It was lovely. I could see the candles burning when I read about it in the book. There were so many small connections like this, so many beautiful things that I got to see & see deeper as I read this beautiful story. Not only is it entertained with my own, but mirrors many parts of my own story.

Historia
An inspirational memoir about how Jennifer Pastiloff's years of waitressing taught her to seek out unexpected beauty, how hearing loss taught her to listen fiercely, how being vulnerable allowed her to find love, and how imperfections can lead to a life full of wild happiness. Centered around the touchstone stories Jen tells in her popular workshops, On Being Human is the story of how a starved person grew into the exuberant woman she was meant to be all along by battling the demons within and winning.

Echoing Pink's blurb, "Read this f*cking book!"
Revisado: 06-22-19
Just finished listening on Audible. What a gift to be able to listen to it in the author's own voice. I felt like I was at one of her yoga retreats and she was sitting at the edge of my mat and we were having a deep conversation, listening hard to one another, sipping on wine straight outta the bottle. I love this book. Best first read into the summer #happysoltice2019 I could wish for. I already know it will be one of my fave reads this year. I also bought a physical copy that I can't wait to crack into, underline, & dialogue with it in the margins. So many Fab Pastiloffisms to highlight. I'm so glad I listened to it on Audible first cuz I can hear her whenever I read her words.

In So You Want to Talk About Race, Ijeoma Oluo offers a contemporary, accessible take on the racial landscape in America, addressing head-on such issues as privilege, police brutality, intersectionality, micro-aggressions, the Black Lives Matter movement, and the "N" word. Perfectly positioned to bridge the gap between people of color and white Americans struggling with race complexities, Oluo answers the questions listeners don't dare ask and explains the concepts that continue to elude everyday Americans.
