Stories good, a bit wordy from time to time.
Revisado: 08-29-24
Great story, details and background. Sometimes it kinda rambled. places where you think, yeah, yeah, yeah...get to the point.
Not often, and not badly. Maybe I was just impatient.

Historia
Monster Hunter International may have had its roots in the United States of America, but there are plenty of monsters in the big old world. And wherever there are monsters, humans will need monster hunters. Here then, stories of the things that go bump in the night and the men and women who bump back—focusing on the myths, legends, and folklore of Czechia, by Czech authors. Includes a new short story by Larry Correia.

NOT A fan.
Revisado: 08-15-24
The narration was insipid, bland and hard to slog through.
The stories are of passing interest, though on the whole, disjointed, disconnected and NOT what I thought I was buying.
As it is listed as the next book in the series, which it most definitely is not, my expectations were that it would be a continuation of the previous story, and not some anthology...no, a collection of quasi related stories.
What's in the tin has nothing to do with what is on the label.
NOT happy.

A bit chewy, but overall good.
Revisado: 05-21-23
Good story, if a bit overwrought; it took me a while to get through the book. I like the story line and how it all connects to the laundry and how it's a bit of a spin off. It could have used some judicious editing or re writing to streamline bits and pieces throughout the story. But I did like it ultimately.

Historia
As the battle between warring angels continues, James Stark is focused on seemingly simpler matters now that he's resurfaced on earth: an invasion of ghosts. L.A.'s Little Cairo neighborhood has suddenly been overrun by violent spirits, and Thomas Abbott knows if anyone can figure out why they've appeared—and how to get rid of them—it's Stark. Armed with the Room of Thirteen Doors, Stark quickly learns that the answer may reach back to the 1970s and the unsolved murder of small-time actor, Chris Stein.

Hell's top assassin & arena champion has PTSD
Revisado: 05-14-23
They, Them, and all the other woke pronouns are a primary subplot in this story. I have several folks in my life that use pronouns and I'm happy to address them how they wish, however, I don't read a sandman slim novel to have politics (Left, Right, ANY) shoved down my throat.
I read Sandman Slim as escapist fun, and diversion. Reading (listening) through the story, you couldn't get away from the wokeness that seemed patched on and clumsy, instead of part of a story.
When I want to get into politics, I go to C-SPAN, or the news. I don't drop money on a book like I did to get flogged, I buy it to escape and have a good time. I also don't think that Janet is that good character, at least she's not fleshed out enough to make me understand why somebody like Sandman Slim would have any interest in her at all.
And to be honest with you, I'm not sure how hell's top assassin and it's number one killer starts getting completely wilted, and pill-poppingly poncey; vacilating between knee-knockingly weak to teenaged angst and indecision.
If you're going to make Sandman slim introspective, at least make it more realistic. If you're going to make Sandman slim political, you'll get one more book out of me and then I will no longer purchase your material. I just don't need that sort of thing in my fantasy "reading".

Historia
For millennia, the Weave, an alliance of species, have fought to resist the telepathic Amplitur, who strive to unite all self-aware life-forms in their great "Purpose." The Weave is slowly losing ground, but for both sides, warfare focuses more on outthinking and outmaneuvering your foe than destruction. In fact, most regard violence as hideously barbaric, and even the thought of harming another sentient being is beyond imagining.

Historia
From the best-selling author of the Sandman Slim series, a lush, dark, stand-alone fantasy built off the insurgent tradition of China Mieville and M. John Harrison - a subversive tale that immerses us in a world where the extremes of bleakness and beauty exist together in dangerous harmony in a city on the edge of civility and chaos. The Great War is over. The city of Lower Proszawa celebrates the peace with a decadence and carefree spirit as intense as the war’s horrifying despair.

A tough book to get through
Revisado: 09-24-21
Kadrey once wrote great stories. lately his last two entries have been a struggle. the last Sandman Slim book I bought was a woke mess that introduced woke ideology in a completely unplausible way. the story was a mishmash that didn't seem to make sense to me from a narrative point of view.
This book has been hard to track, and the interruptions with the story have been abrupt and harsh. I'll finish it because, well I bought it. However, it's tough to chew through. not sure what happened to Mr Kadrey but I don't know that I'll be buying any more books from him. it's wearing my patience thin.

Historia
For decades we've been told that positive thinking is the key to a happy, rich life. "F*ck positivity," Mark Manson says. "Let's be honest, shit is f*cked, and we have to live with it." In his wildly popular Internet blog, Manson doesn't sugarcoat or equivocate. He tells it like it is - a dose of raw, refreshing, honest truth that is sorely lacking today. The Subtle Art of Not Giving a F*ck is his antidote to the coddling, let's-all-feel-good mind-set that has infected modern society and spoiled a generation, rewarding them with gold medals just for showing up.
