Historia
One of the most successful music acts of all time, Dire Straits filled stadiums around the world. Their albums sold hundreds of millions of copies and their music - classics like “Sultans of Swing”, “Romeo and Juliet", “Money for Nothing”, and “Brothers in Arms” - is still played on every continent today. There was, quite simply, no bigger band on the planet throughout the '80s. In this powerful and entertaining memoir, founding member John Illsley gives the inside track on the most successful rock band of their time.

An excellent autobiography about a wonderful time in music. I highly recommend it.

Whether you're just a casual fan or a die hard fan of dIRE STRAITS, I highly recommend this book. John Illsley's description of his early life and the early days of the sTRAITS leading into their global success in the 1980s is fantastic, thoughtful and very entertaining.

Historia
In 1968 Nick Drake had everything to live for. The product of a loving, creative family and a privileged background, he was not only a handsome and popular Cambridge undergraduate, but also a new signing to the UK's hippest record label, Island. Three years later, however - having made three well-reviewed but low-selling albums - Nick had been overwhelmed by a mysterious mental illness. He returned to live in his family home in rural Warwickshire in 1971, and died in obscurity in 1974, aged just 26.

Simply put, this book is a miracle....
Revisado: 06-22-23
For many Nick Drake fans, like myself, the only way we could learn more about the short life of Nick Drake was digging up old magazine articles about Nick that we found online, pouring over liner notes in box sets and repressings of Nick's three brilliant albums, or chatting with like minded friends and comparing notes on the scant amount of information in Drake's life after the release of Pink Moon. However, now, due to the extraordinary work of Richard Morton Jack, Nick Drake's life is no longer hidden in the shadows. Richard Morton Jack has taken great care in leaving no stone unturned and now presents to us the wonderful beginnings of Nick's musical life and the rather difficult details concerning the end of his life. I say this book is a miracle because so much of Nick's life was shrouded in myth, with only two minor documentaries online to help shape what little most of us know about the short life of this beloved artist. Now, we know the full story. Richard Morton Jack was giving access to the private correspondence of family letters, diary, and journal entries, home recordings, and many other artifacts from the Drake family that helped give a proper history of the life of Nick Drake. I can not recommend this book enough. It's absolutely brilliant!

Historia
For 6,557 miles, Chuck Klosterman thought about dying. He drove a rental car from New York to Rhode Island to Georgia to Mississippi to Iowa to Minneapolis to Fargo to Seattle, and he chased death and rock 'n' roll all the way. Within the span of 21 days, Chuck had three relationships end, one by choice, one by chance, and one by exhaustion. He snorted cocaine in a graveyard. He walked a half-mile through a bean field.

An odyssey of ex-girlfriends crap record taste
Revisado: 04-20-23
I loved Chuck's latest book, "The Ninties." It was phenomenal, and I wanted more.... but this......
It started out well, with some very good moments in it. However, if there's one thing I've gotten good at, it's identifying exactly when an author has run out of interesting things to write about. About halfway through, I knew I was in trouble. Klosterman spent more time comparing his fav ex-girlfriends to Kiss albums than he did discussing all the famous and dead Seattle musicians combined. He spent more time writing about Whitesnake than he did Buddy Holly, and Whitesnake (for better or worse) are still alive. And now I know more about a conversation he had with a white girl in a FUBU sweating in North Dakota than I do about the location of where Skynyrd had their plane crash. Chuck, next time, go to LA. It may have been more interesting.

It's America in 1962. Slavery is legal once again. The few Jews who still survive hide under assumed names. In San Francisco, the I Ching is as common as the Yellow Pages. All because some twenty years earlier the United States lost a war - and is now occupied by Nazi Germany and Japan.

Awful

I do not recommend this book at all. It was awful and not at all what I thought it would be. it literally resolves itself in the last 15 minutes with an unfulfilled ending...

Roger Keith “Syd” Barrett was the definition of a golden boy. With good looks and an aptitude for music, he was a charismatic child who fast became a teenage leader in 1960s England. Along with three school chums - Roger Waters, Richard Wright, and Nick Mason - he formed what would become Pink Floyd.

Punk rock and hip-hop, disco and salsa, the loft jazz scene and the downtown composers known as Minimalists—in the mid-1970s, New York City was a laboratory where all the major styles of modern music were reinvented, all at once, from one block to the next, by musicians who knew, admired, and borrowed from one another.

Historia
There has never been a band like Pearl Jam. The Seattle quintet has recorded 11 studio albums; sold some 85 million records; played more than a thousand shows, in 50 countries; and had five different albums reach number one. But Pearl Jam's story is about much more than music. Not for You is the first full-length treatment of Pearl Jam's odyssey and importance in the culture, from the '90s to the present.
