Historia
Now twenty-four, Hanna is living an outwardly normal life of domestic content. Married to real estate agent Jacob, she’s also stepmother to his teenage daughter Joelle. They live in a beautiful home, and Hanna loves her career as a phlebotomist—a job perfectly suited to her occasional need to hurt people. But when Joelle begins to change in ways that don’t suit Hanna’s purposes, her carefully planned existence threatens to come apart.

Seriously Disappointed
Revisado: 11-06-24
If you liked the first book and are looking for the same then you'll be greatly disappointed as I am. I just finished the book and honestly wish I'd saved my credit - it's nothing like the first one. Hannah's all grown up, out on her own, and though she alludes to the time in between, you figure it out from the word go. Sad because Zoje Stage could've given us a true follow-up, starting with what it was like in the school, etc. Oh well - you've been warned.

Historia
On Harlow Street, the well-to-do neighborhood couples and their children gather for a catered barbecue as the summer winds down; drinks continue late into the night. Everything is fabulous until the picture-perfect hostess explodes in fury because her son disobeys her. Everyone at the party hears her exquisite veneer crack—loud and clear. Before long, that same young boy falls from his bedside window in the middle of the night. And then, his mother can only sit by her son’s hospital bed, where she refuses to speak to anyone, and his life hangs in the balance.

Highly Let Down 😞
Revisado: 10-31-24
The Push was a book that has stood out amongst MANY others as being completely engaging all the way to the end; I've waited so long for this author to put out a new book. I'm So Disappointed, no where near as good. Way too convoluted, too many characters, to much back and forth, especially when hard to follow which character is the subject, and finally... just a complete let down at the end as well as characters just thrown to the wayside, no closure.

Philippa Gregory's first story in the best-selling Wideacre trilogy. A compelling tale of passion and intrigue set in the 18th century. From the author of The Other Boleyn Girl and The Virgin's Lover. Wideacre Hall, set in the heart of the English countryside, is the ancestral home that Beatrice Lacey loves. But as a woman of the 18th century, she has no right of inheritance. Corrupted by a world that mistreats women, she sets out to corrupt others.

Despised a character
Revisado: 07-03-24
Not often do I have such a visceral reaction to a fictional character but this book has achieved it. You've already read here that the book is based on incest which I gather was more common in this era than I'm aware of today; that being said, it's all a big part of the plot. I was able to get past it in the over all scheme of things. I'm going on to next book in this triad so I guess that tells me it's worth a listen. Be prepared to want to throttle a character or two!

F'd Up
Revisado: 04-30-24
I know the book is based on the Emmitt Till murder and appreciate the history. However, WHY did they mess up the book with the whole "Rosenthal/Sutton" diatribe??! What a messed up part of the book, just stupid, taking away from the realness of the book and history.

The Worst
Revisado: 03-10-24
This has got to be one of the worst listening experience or at least in top 10 of my 3000 listens. Seriously, why did they switch narrators and did the producer even bother to listen to this? My apologies to the narrator, I've not listened to any of his other work but I'll MAKE SURE on other books he's not doing this type of horrible acting before I get the book. Sad because I like this series.

When she is 12, the Nazis occupy Paris and father and daughter flee to the walled citadel of Saint-Malo, where Marie-Laure’s reclusive great-uncle lives in a tall house by the sea. With them they carry what might be the museum’s most valuable and dangerous jewel.

O....M....G.... Dementia Inducing
Revisado: 11-17-23
I listen to 3 - 4 books a week and one of my favorite genres is historical fiction based on WWII - so..... that being said, you'd think I would just LOOOOOVVVVEEE this book since it's gotten so many good reviews. I have NEVER felt so confused while trying to listen to a book - I'm not sure if it was written to do exactly this, keep the person disoriented. Perhaps it's just me and all of a sudden my dementia has caught up with me and books will forever be ruined for me? I certainly hope it's not the latter, listening to books is my greatest passion and there's absolutely no way I would want to listen to another book that is this fragmented, never.

Just a complete letdown - just flat and extremely unfulfilling - don't expect to get any answers. Seriously, absolutely a waste - of course the narration is good and probably the only thing that could hold your attention.

I'm not sure why all the hits on SK regarding mentioning COVID or Trump or anything we all just lived through - people, it's history. Have none of you listened to any of the hundreds upon hundreds of books based on 911? Oh, and what about SK's book based around Kennedy - Did y'all hate that too? So what if SK writes about Trump or Covid - WE LIVED IT, we continue to live it.
I do agree - the narrator was not a good fit, Even had it not been Mr. Patton reading, I do believe the narrator should've been picked out better. This narrator seemed to rush through reading; we all got used to Holly being choppy, kinda slow except when excited ("open it now, now, NOW!") I slowed down the speed to 95 and it's still a little too fast but it did make it better. As one reviewer mentioned, you'll not want to be eating through some of the sections - but overall, a good SK read.

Historia
Molly Gray is not like everyone else. She struggles with social skills and misreads the intentions of others. Her gran used to interpret the world for her, codifying it into simple rules that Molly could live by. Since Gran died a few months ago, twenty-five-year-old Molly has been navigating life’s complexities all by herself. No matter—she throws herself with gusto into her work as a hotel maid. Her unique character, along with her obsessive love of cleaning and proper etiquette, make her an ideal fit for the job.
