Historia
Fearless. Loyal. Brilliant. Ruthless. Bold words are always used to describe English war hero Captain Chase Eversea, but another word unfortunately plays a role in every Eversea's destiny: trouble. And trouble for Chase arrives in the form of a mysterious message summoning him to a London rendezvous...where he encounters the memory of his most wicked indiscretion in the flesh: Rosalind March - the only woman he could never forget.

Dreadfully dull
Revisado: 03-29-25
I have read every other book in the PRG series except this one until now. I can’t believe how awful this book is compared to the rest of the series! The plot, the love story, the resolution…everything. I wouldn’t waste a credit.

Innovative if tedious
Revisado: 05-18-24
I’ve never read a book by this author but I will give her other books a try.
THE GOOD:
It’s a very well orchestrated whodunnit with plenty of plausible culprits. In fact, unlike many mysteries, I had no idea who did it until it was revealed.
The characters are interesting and I understood their motivations.
THE BAD:
That said, the book-within-a-book device was a smidge too convenient and I wish there was a better device for revealing the clues.
Also, I thought it was a smidge too long. Parts of the book lagged and I almost put it down. But I had to know who did it so I persevered.
I appreciate the authors innovation and thoroughness so I’ll try another one.

Hell Hath Frozen Over ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
Revisado: 03-17-24
While Hell in a Hand Basket (Devlin and Sophia’s story) was fine, I’m writing this review for Loretta and Thomas’ story in the novella!! Omg now THAT’S a story I want to hear!
It’s disappointing that so many Regency stories feature young debs or 20-something’s. Loretta/Thomas showed how rich and passionate life can be for mature women of the Ton. I wish more authors made these types of women their heroine. Imagine all the knowledge and wisdom a female character of that demo could bring to bear on the narrative. I found the conflicts Loretta had to deal with more novel and compelling than the typical “innocent virgin” troupe. I definitely wish the story was longer. Magnificent!

Woah!
Revisado: 11-28-23
I rarely read descriptions and never read reviews before I listen to a book. Furthermore I didn’t listen to book one of this series. So imagine my utter confusion during the first 4 chapters. (Unlike other Regency book series, you DO kinda need to read book one first). And imagine my utter stupefaction at the subject matter!! 😳 This. Book. Is. STEAMY!!! Lots of sex. So much sex, in fact, you actually don’t really care what the plot is after a while. 🤣

I finally just gave up. He’s a walking red flag of a character even by Regency standards. Nothing at all interesting has happened by ch 14. Not worth it.

Honestly Loretta Chase already did this story (and much better) in A Duke In Shining Armor.
This one dragged. There was no witty repartee. No clever dialogue. No page-turning plot.
I gave up after chapter 14.

Historia
Leopold Halton, the duke of Dammerton, is the man with everything: perfect hair, beautiful waistcoats, and London's finest collection of decorative objects. But two years after his highly entertaining divorce (entertaining for everyone but him, that is), Leo still doesn't have what he wants most: another wife. Leo is ready to propose to a suitable lady, but with gossip dissecting his every move, the family of his nearly ideal future bride demand that he first stop calling on artist Juno Bell, the first woman he ever kissed and now, a decade later, his friend.

Salute Juno Bell
Revisado: 09-22-23
Vincy has an incredible talent for writing about a very specific type of female protagonist and I deeply relate to her: Strong, capable independent women pushing up against the boundaries of a very restrictive and unfair society for women. That said, Juno Bell is my favorite of them all as I’ve never related to a protagonist (from any book) as deeply as I do Juno. Her motivations and insecurities mirror my own. I completely understood why she thought the things she thought and acted the way she did.
I agree with others that, Leo’s prevarication was super annoying and the plot device is over-used in the genre. Still, I loved Juno and this story so much that I’d gladly overlook the book’s (minor) shortcoming.
Kate Reading is brilliant as usual.

Big fan
Revisado: 09-21-23
I am the LAST person anyone would characterize as “sentimental” but something about this book hit me deep in my feels. Maybe it’s because I relate so much to Arabelle’s proud, independent stoicism which is actually just masking a need to be love and wanted. Excellent characters, excellent motivations, excellent dialogue.
I’d never heard of Mia Vincy before the first book in the series. After book 2, i’ll buy anything she writes. Kate Reading (as usual) is a master voice actor.
