Historia
Jill McCorkle's new collection of 12 short stories is peopled with characters brilliantly like us - flawed, clueless, endearing. These stories are also "animaled" with all manner of mammal, bird, fish, reptile - also flawed and endearing. She asks, what don't humans share with the so-called lesser species? Looking for the answer, she takes us back to her fictional home town of Fulton, North Carolina, to meet a broad range of characters facing up to the double-edged sword life offers hominids.

So depressing I'd rather open a vein and slowly bleed to death than finish this

Excellent

She’s a master of the short story, and the narrators do each one of these stories justice. Wrll written! Well produced!

Historia
In Secondhand, Adam Minter delves into the vast, multibillion-dollar industry that resells used stuff around the world. He follows the trail of unwanted objects from the closets, garages, and storage units of Middle America to epic used-goods markets in Canada, Mexico, Japan, Ghana, India, Malaysia, and beyond. Secondhand takes us through the often painful and heartbreaking process of cleaning out a lifetime’s worth of possessions and shows that used stuff still has a place in a world that values the new and shiny.

The Narrator is Terrible!
Revisado: 10-09-22
The reporting is pretty good (spends too much time reporting on the same thing at the start but then this gets better). But the narrator is so terrible - almost unbearable. Had I listened before buying, I would’ve read the text instead of listening. Not a good audiobook due to this terrible narrator. He pauses and emphasizes in weird places.

Smart, humorous, and strikingly original essays by one of “America’s most bracing thinkers on race, gender, and capitalism of our time.” (Rebecca Traister) In these eight piercing explorations on beauty, media, money, and more, Tressie McMillan Cottom - award-winning professor and acclaimed author of Lower Ed - embraces her venerated role as a purveyor of wit, wisdom, and Black Twitter snark about all that is right and much that is wrong with this thing we call society.

To be read and reread as though listing to a favorite friend who has a sharper mind than my own.
