wonderful stories well told
Revisado: 06-29-24
This series packs a lot of entertainment into a short listen. The main characters are well drawn and likable. the new characters introduced for each story are defined succinctly and just enough to move the story. Each mystery was well planned and engaging.

Like a smaller and much scruffier Greta Garbo - finally - Markham speaks! It's Christmas and time for the first (and almost certainly last) St Mary's Annual Children's Christmas Party - attendance compulsory, by order of Dr Bairstow. Discovered practising his illegal reindeer dance and poo-dropping routine, our hero, along with fellow disaster magnets Peterson and Maxwell, is dispatched to Anglo-Saxon England to discover the truth about Alfred and the cakes.

Wonderful narration for a cheerful, uncomplicated story. Not all intelligent stories have to include a dark center. This one was easy listening!

Historia
St Mary's is back and is facing a battle to survive in this, the fourth installment of the Chronicles. Max and Leon are re-united and looking forward to a peaceful lifetime together. But, sadly, they don't even make it to lunchtime. The action races from 17th century London to Ancient Egypt and from Pompeii to 14th century Southwark as they're pursued up and down the timeline.

Revisado: 10-22-22
The narration beautifully compliments the story. I'm re-listening now with the short stories in their chronological place. Every character is someone I want to know. The action and history are a mind-filled escape.

Historia
Dame Judi Dench and Geoffrey Palmer star as old flames Jean Pargetter and Lionel Hardcastle. Their love story was all set for a happy ending in the 1950s when Jean was a student nurse and Lionel, a young army officer. But he was posted abroad and they lost touch. Thirty-eight years later, Lionel has returned to London to publish his autobiography and, through a strange coincidence, he is reunited with Jean who has set up a secretarial agency.

A wonderful time!
Revisado: 02-17-13
This is a great radio play closely following the BBC T.V. series. The characters are well written and charming. The situations they find themselves in are entertaining without being fantastic or unbelievable and their interactions reveal a very genuine warmth. A healthy dose of sarcasm and self deprecating humor keeps the program from becoming too sweet. I thoroughly enjoyed my time in the company of Lionel and Jean. The only improvement I could ask for is the ability to buy the next few series!

A Great Way to Spend Time in the Garden
Revisado: 02-07-13
If you could sum up Potting On in three words, what would they be?
Delightful, Good Natured, Easy
What did you like best about this story?
The characters were all quite different which helped create entertaining conflict without being mean spirited or negative. The stories were accessible, everyday ordeals that would try anyone but with the lovely addition of great humor.
What does Pam Ayres and Geoffrey Whitehead bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?
The accents are so much fun for me as an American. They sound like a working class woman and an upper class man which is a delightful additional counterpoint to their personalities; She is hard working and fun loving while he is lazy and self adsorbed. They obviously love each other, though, which makes it much easier to laugh at them.
Any additional comments?
I hope Audible will add additional series of Potting On soon.

Four classic episodes from the original TV series: Arrival, Songs of Praise, Easter Special and The Christmas Lunch Incident. Welcome to Dibley, a perfect village full of some perfectly peculiar people - including Alice Tinker and her underactive brain, Owen Newitt and his overactive bowels, and Letitia Cropley and her orange cake with Branston pickle icing.

Thank you Audible!!
Revisado: 02-07-13
What did you love best about Vicar of Dibley 1?
I loved the TV series and this is an audio only version of the show.
What other book might you compare Vicar of Dibley 1 to and why?
The Good Life and Fawlty Towers are two other BBC televion series transferred to audio exactly as aired with the exception of brief narration. The Good Life and Vicar of Dibley are both very warm and funny.
What about Dawn French’s performance did you like?
Dawn French is able to deliver barbs and sarcasm without a hint of malice, never losing that lovely feeling that she genuinely likes these kooky characters
Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?
I had to ration it out slowly since there are (as of yet) no more in the series.
Any additional comments?
I hope audible will make all of these wonderful shows available soon!

This classic comedy is set in the charming country home of Charles Condomine, a remarried widower. A witty and convivial evening party among friends is transformed when a seance conjures the ghost of Elvira, Charles' first wife, who delights in wreaking havoc among the living. An enchanting Coward comedy!

Any additional comments?
This was a charming production of a very funny play. The acting was wonderful with characters who were at once infuriating and endearing. The live audience was a great addition to this audio experience as were the occasional sound effects. Overall, a great play well done.
