Difficult choices will need to be made, and in the end those who laugh last do so because they are the only ones to survive.

Clever Riddle
Revisado: 04-22-25
In the introduction, the author says The Jester is a stand alone story. While I would agree, I still felt I would have had a greater appreciation for it if I was already familiar with the world in which it is set. I will give it this much. I got this to try something by Michael Sullivan, and I did come away wanting to read more by him. So in that regard it was quite good.
The narration was very good. The story was entertaining enough that I never considered not finishing it. I did peg the gist of the answer quite early, though I didn’t have it exactly right. I can’t really find any fault with the writing or the characters. Perhaps my foul mood when I listened to it played a part in my mediocre rating. It did make me smile and I do recommend giving it a listen or read. At less than an hour, it’s worth the time. Now I need to find the series from which this was based. Solid 3 stars.

I absolutely loved this book! It takes you on the journey of Bob Irwin’s life and includes his own personal stories about Steve Irwin. I was a blubbering mess at times with tears streaming down my face. He shares the raw pain of his losses and grief in a way that I felt the gut wrenching pain right along with him.
For those wanting a book about Steve Irwin’s life story, this is not it. This is his dad’s story. Yes, there is a great deal devoted to Steve, but it is through Bob’s eyes. This is Bob’s story, and it is beautiful on its own. It will give you a deeper understanding of why Steve was the way he was. It will also give you a greater respect for both men and the wildlife they fight so hard to save. I highly recommend this book for anyone interested in wildlife conservation. I’d give it 8 stars if I could. It’s rare that a book has such a profound effect on me. The Last Crocodile Hunter did.

Greg Gutfeld is back with a hilarious essay collection about how he destroyed the mainstream late night landscape of heavyweights and became host of the #1 late night show in all of television. With his signature wit and whip-smart humor, Greg reveals never-before-told stories of his upbringing and early career, what it’s like going head-to-head with the liberal media, and what it took to flip the script on the comedy landscape.

Revisado: 04-03-25
Having never read any of Greg’s other books, I wasn’t sure what to expect from this one. I love Gutfeld! and hoped the book would be as good as his show. I was not the least bit disappointed. Not only did I laugh and often, I found much of it insightful. He made points I had not considered and gave me plenty to think about. Now I want to read his other books. If you are a fan and want to know more about how Greg made it to where he is today, you need to read (or listen) to this book.
The book is full of jabs at Jesse Watters and Dana Perino. He includes pretty much all of his Fox colleagues along the way, but those two get the most. I thoroughly enjoyed the book start to finish. I only wish Greg had read it all instead if just the intro, but the narrator does a fine job. 5 stars and I hope he writes more.

How degrading. Stuck babysitting a woman because his alpha said so. As pride beta, he has better things to do with his time, like washing his impressive mane, hunting down thugs for fun, and chasing tail - sometimes his own, if his lion is feeling playful. But his babysitting job takes an unexpected turn when the woman he's assigned guard duty over turns out to be his mate. A female threatened by an outside wolf pack.

Awesome!
Revisado: 04-02-25
I’ve had this series on my TBR list with the first few books purchased for far too long. I love the lighthearted nature of Eve Langlais’ books. She is my go to author whenever I need a good chuckle and a fun HEA.
I loved the life lessons throughout this story. I found Arabella so relatable.
Hader was the ultimate mate for her and did a fantastic job of showing her how smart and capable she was. He waltzed into her life and immediately began shattering her protective walls. When she needed space, he backed off, but he never backed completely away. He respected her opinions and showed her he could meet her needs as an equal, not just an alpha male. I loved the give and take, push and pull of their relationship. It was a refreshing change from the totally dominating lead male taking control of the damsel in distress. These two worked through everything together. I found myself smiling more often than not. I expect I will listen to or read this book again in the future. Highly recommend this one to any fan if Eve Langlais. It’s a great example even for a first timer just curious about her books. No need to have read the first book in the series. It stands alone just fine and sets up for the next book at the end. 4.5 stars

Coyote America is both an environmental and a deep natural history of the coyote. It traces both the five-million-year-long biological story of an animal that has become the "wolf" in our backyards and its cultural evolution from a preeminent spot in Native American religions to the hapless foil of the Road Runner. A deeply American tale, the story of the coyote in the American West and beyond is a sort of Manifest Destiny in reverse.

Very interesting
Revisado: 03-27-25
I thought I knew a bit about coyotes before this book. I learned how little I actually did know. I liked how the author wove stories into the different segments of the book. It really helped in some of the dryer parts.
I never knew just how good coyotes are at maintaining their own population. It’s debatable whether our interference hurts or helps. It certainly has made no difference in reducing their numbers. The more humans try to eradicate them, the more they breed larger litters. The less we interfere, the more stable they become.
The politics involved in killing coyotes and wolves is disturbing. Government makes a mess of most things like this because they try to regulate what they don’t understand based mostly on their own desire to win votes in the next election. This can be said of most things government sticks their noses in.
The one part I took issue with in the book was his depiction of hunters as having no appreciation or respect for environmental conditions. This could not be further from the truth. Most hunters I know are more in tune with the environment than the activists trying to push their specific agendas to save the planet. Hunting, for many hunters, is about population control, not eradication of a species. Animals all have their place and purpose in the circle of life. Why would a hunter want to eliminate a food source or even just a prey to hunt for sport? Outside of that one small part of the book, I was captivated by all he presented about wolves and coyotes. It felt a little repetitive towards the end, but overall it is a very interesting and well researched book. It gives perspectives from all angles. The narrator did a fantastic job as well. Solid 4 stars. I learned a lot.

Disturbing
Revisado: 03-20-25
I have read or listened to all of Jamie Malton’s true crime books. This series remains my favorite due to the themed nature of each book.
I found most of these cases disturbing because they all involve the death of young children. It is sickening what some would do to an innocent child. I find the ones regarding nannies most interesting and usually the most vile.
In this book, the Irish nanny’s story struck me the most. It seems she may have been truly innocent, but if that is the case, who did kill the children? I’m curious about cases like this where the one originally convicted is ultimately exonerated but no alternative party is prosecuted. Does the case remain closed? I feel sad for the victims’ families, but also relieved the innocents are released from prison.
If you can handle reviews of crimes against kids, I recommend this book. If not, try one of her others. She does a great job presenting each case with details on both victims and perpetrators. Also, a portion of sales is donated to victims charities. I look forward to reading her next book.

Fast paced romance
Revisado: 12-05-24
Elena & Ryder have great chemistry from the start. This isn’t the most clever plot Harris has ever written, but it is still well written. I felt the attempts at distraction were a bit obvious, but admittedly by the time I got to the reveal I was swayed into expecting one of the distractions to be the culprit. So hats off to the author on that. Main character chemistry is great and the narrators performances are top notch. In short this book is everything I desire from a romance novel. 4.5 stars rounded up to 5. Looking forward to the next one.

Great Collection
Revisado: 11-21-24
If you are new to Jamie Malton, this set is an excellent place to start. Each book has a theme of similar cases. I really like this format. I like comparing the different killers’ methods and eccentricities. Though they choose the same formats, no two murders are exactly the same.
I appreciate how Jamie Malton gives attention to the victims’ families. While some cases are extremely graphic (Murder Most Sadistic), they are never presented in a way that enhances details for shock value. She also does a good job showing the illness of the killers.
I have read/listened to all of Jamie Malton’s books and this set is my favorite. Killer Case Files is excellent as well, but I really enjoy the themed nature of this series. I hope she continues. No matter how they are presented, she is an automatic buy on release day author for me. Easy 5 stars for this set.

Sweet Killer Romance
Revisado: 10-29-24
This was a good story, but it had its faults. It was sticky sweet how Declan fell for Audrey and Harper. The audio was very good. I enjoyed the narration more than expected.
I can’t say this was a top five by Eve Langlais, but it did have all I’ve come to expect. Steamy scenes, giggles, and suspense. It was telegraphed heavily though and easy to figure out who the Harper’s real daddy was. There were a couple of things that seemed to meander off course and not make a lot of sense. I may have been able to follow better if I replayed a couple of scenes but I chose to just continue. I don’t want to add spoilers so I’ll just say it involved attending the open house. The bet they made was amusing.
Overall it was good and I enjoyed it to the sweet HEA. I just can’t see it as 5 stars great. I’ll settle on a solid 4.0. Worth the listen for a sticky sweet HEA with an aforable kid and kuck/a mom.

On February 29, 2000, John Price took out a restraining order against his girlfriend, Katherine Knight. Later that day, he told his coworkers she had stabbed him and that if he were ever to go missing, it was because Knight had killed him. The next day, Price didn’t show up for work. A coworker was sent to check on him. They found a bloody handprint by the front door, and they immediately contacted the police. The local police force was not prepared for the chilling scene they were about to encounter.

Horrific Insanity
Revisado: 10-21-24
Narration was superb. The story and the way it was read held my attention throughout. Even in the moments when I really wanted to shut it off and walk away. This says a lot about how horrible the closing scenes were if you understand how strong my stomach usually is for gruesome stories. This is not the most horrific murder I’ve heard details of, but it is certainly one of the most gruesome. The mind of the killer is completely lost. It is sad that no one was ever able to help her medically. Some people, however sad it may seem, really should not be let out of confinement to walk among the average citizens of the world. It baffles me how, despite knowing her history and mental illness, judges were able to keep letting het walk free to repeat her offenses over and over again. I only recommend this to experienced True Crime readers with strong constitutions for the most macabre details. I can handle a lot and the last chapter of this book almost did me in! The story in general is fascinating though. The narrator does an excellent job. 4.5 stars. Dropped half star because I think a bit of graphic detail could have been toned down without losing the point of how awful the crime was.
