Historia
Argentine poet Jorge Luis Borges was madly in love when his life was shattered by painful heartbreak. But the breakdown that followed illuminated an incontrovertible truth—that love is necessarily imbued with loss, that the one doesn’t exist without the other. German physicist Werner Heisenberg was fighting with the scientific establishment on the meaning of the quantum realm’s absurdity when he had his own epiphany—that there is no such thing as a complete, perfect description of reality.

Incredible.

This is one of the best books I have ever listened to. I’ll be getting a physical copy to read it again. And then again.

Historia
J. Robert Oppenheimer was one of the iconic figures of the 20th century, a brilliant physicist who led the effort to build the atomic bomb but later confronted the moral consequences of scientific progress. When he proposed international controls over atomic materials, opposed the development of the hydrogen bomb, and criticized plans for a nuclear war, his ideas were anathema to powerful advocates of a massive nuclear buildup during the anti-Communist hysteria of the early 1950s.

Incredible book. Issues with narrator/recording.
Revisado: 05-31-23
Great book. Impressively comprehensive and remarkable biography. On the other hand, the audio quality/consistency was rank. Seems like the narrator must have messed up a bunch and then had to go back later and splice in corrections, but the recording quality was poorer and very noticeable whenever that happened. Still worth the listen, though, if only for the incredible story.

Historia
For all of neuroscience's advances, we've made little progress on its biggest question: How do simple cells in the brain create intelligence? Jeff Hawkins and his team discovered that the brain uses map-like structures to build a model of the world - not just one model, but hundreds of thousands of models of everything we know. This discovery allows Hawkins to answer important questions about how we perceive the world, why we have a sense of self, and the origin of high-level thought.

Really interesting, but overextends himself in the last portion.
Revisado: 05-16-22
I enjoyed this book for the most part. Interesting theory and reasonably well explained. I thought the author overextended himself and tried too hard in the last sections of the book.

Meh...
Revisado: 04-03-21
This was not as good as the first book. There were interesting ideas and some fun story moments, but overall it was trying too hard to carry the nostalgia mantle from the first book. The obscure retro references got tired and boring. Also, this book was not subtle about trying to tick some obligatory woke check marks to ward off the mobs.
The reading performance was good.

excellent audio book
Revisado: 08-23-17
I read the books many years ago while they were coming out, deciding to take a break until they were all out so I could start again. So much information and plot made it hard to remember things when books were only coming out every couple years. now I am going through the audio version and they have done an excellent job.
