Good character progression and well carried multiple cases.

Some characters went into Irish accents inconsistently. At first I thought that perhaps one ongoing character should have had an Irish accident, but hadn’t in previous books in this series, then realized that as the anger rose by characters in the story, that they all seemed to have Irish accents….. then later, faded away….

Historia
Years ago, when he was a homicide detective with the Seattle PD, J. P. Beaumont’s partner, Sue Danielson, was murdered. Volatile and angry, Danielson’s ex-husband came after her in her home and, with nowhere else to turn, Jared, Sue’s teenage son, frantically called Beau for help. As Beau rushed to the scene, he urged Jared to grab his younger brother and flee the house. In the end, Beaumont’s plea and Jared’s quick action saved the two boys from their father’s murderous rage.

Liked having Joe (Lindsay’s husband) back on a case with her. They try to be there for their daughter. Good story with enough different things going on to keep my interest.

I really like the Bennett family characters. I had listened to this years ago and thoroughly enjoyed it again. The family dynamics and Mike Bennett’s determination to keep moving forward are inspiring.

Love the family focus
Revisado: 05-18-24
I really appreciate how Michael Bennett values his family and expresses that in action. While that part may be a bit idealized, it’s what I need to hear right now. It is inspiring as work/life balance is challenged in my own life.

Historia
The story opens with the apparently accidental drowning of a sixth form student in the Norfolk countryside. As a matter of routine, or so it seems, the case passes across the desk of Detective Sergeant Smith, recently returned to work after an internal investigation into another case that has led to tensions between officers at Kings Lake police headquarters. As an ex-DCI, Smith could have retired by now, and it is clear that some of his superiors wish that he would do so.

Delightful mystery with great characters
Revisado: 11-04-23
This was my first listen to a book by Peter Grainger. The story had enough going on to make it interesting, and characters to build it out. This is the first in a series, I believe, and I will definitely be adding #2 to my listening list! I also appreciated that there was not brutal nor grotesque crime, or too scary. Loved the narrator as well.

In my book, you will meet a little girl named Viola who ran from her past until she made a life-changing decision to stop running forever. This is my story, from a crumbling apartment in Central Falls, Rhode Island, to the stage in New York City, and beyond. This is the path I took to finding my purpose but also my voice in a world that didn’t always see me.

Powerful story and outstanding performance
Revisado: 03-12-23
Viola Davis opens up to share honestly and deeply about her life with horrific struggles as well as huge joys. Her performance makes this even more impactful - like she is talking to me to tell her story. She is vulnerable and insightful, and her story provides inspiration. Highly recommend this Audible selection!!!

Historia
The New York Times Magazine’s award-winning “1619 Project” issue reframed our understanding of American history by placing slavery and its continuing legacy at the center of our national narrative. This new book substantially expands on that work, weaving together 18 essays that explore the legacy of slavery in present-day America with 36 poems and works of fiction that illuminate key moments of oppression, struggle, and resistance.
