Historia
On January 6, 2021, Donald Trump incited a violent mob to storm the US Capitol in attempts to overturn the presidential election. It was a betrayal of our Constitution, and one of the darkest days in recent history. Yet to former congressman Adam Kinzinger it was also the culmination of a cultural and political rupture he’d long seen coming. Constructive criticism from within the Republican Party was no longer enough. It was time to stand up, even if it meant betraying his own party.

Respect for this Illinois renegade!
Revisado: 09-22-24
As a resident of Illinois, I obviously knew of Adam Kinzinger. (Cannot say that I agreed with his political views and actions.)
After the January 6th Committee Hearings, I can say I developed respect for him.
Now that I have listened to this book, I can state that I greatly appreciate that he chose to speak TRUTH. That he chose to honor his INTEGRITY and not an evil alliance for the sake of a political career. That he chooses to continue to SPEAK out.
The book is well written and Adam is an excellent narrator. I have recommended it to many and will continue to do so.

Historia
In the aftermath of the 2020 presidential election, Donald Trump and many around him, including certain other elected Republican officials, intentionally breached their oath to the Constitution: they ignored the rulings of dozens of courts, plotted to overturn a lawful election, and provoked a violent attack on our Capitol.

Truth be told!!!!
Revisado: 06-18-24
There is nothing that I disliked about this book!
Liz Cheney has shared the TRUTH and process about January 6, 2021 with us all. I appreciate and respect her for doing so.
Deciding to join the Committee to investigate the whole truth and nothing but the truth about Trump and January 6, 2021 is 100% admirable.
We saw the culmination of a specific plan -live on television on January 6 - but did not know the “behind the scenes” and “acts” that many Republicans were part of. Exposing it all was certainly the toughest political move she must have ever made.
I was not sure that I could endure her voice for the entirety but her narration was excellent! I paused and took breaks from this frightful account only because of how horrific it is.
I highly recommend this book and will share it with as many people as possible.

From the Chicago neighborhoods where she grew up and set her groundbreaking The House on Mango Street to her abode in Mexico in a region where “my ancestors lived for centuries,” the places Sandra Cisneros has lived have provided inspiration for her now-classic works of fiction and poetry. But a house of her own, where she could truly take root, has eluded her. With this collection—spanning three decades, and including never-before-published work—Cisneros has come home at last.

I Could NOT finish listening!
Revisado: 02-10-24
A great story. I love the author but... I had to stop listening to the book. Her voice and tone were NOT what I expected. I attempted many times because Ms. Cisneros is an amazing writer. I just could not, so I finished READING the book. Wish I had listened sooner so that I could have returned the book.

Gabby! Like the character Juliet- Your gift is to write
Revisado: 12-03-21
There is so much I can say about this book; positive!!! All of it!!!!
I am a 60 year old Puerto Rican woman, born in the United States but lived 1/3 of my life in Puerto Rico, and I can identify with this novel.
Wow! It is as if Gabby- as Juliet, was in my head many decades ago and simultaneously experienced life.
Questions, culture, Latina queer as compared to White lesbian/ gay/ queer. Juliet’s tia never questioning that she could love a woman then love and marry a man and be happy; coming out to family; feeling confused about a first love and knowing when to move on. Etcetera, etcetera, etcetera.
OMG, or in buen Boricua Spanish: Coño!!!
( Este libro es excelente para la juventud y para nosotras, las que ya vivimos muchas de estas experiencias y ahora quieren vivir más.)

Benefitted from Title IX!
Saw Billy Jean beat that chauvinist man when I was 12 and loved it! Was so proud and felt vindicated knowing that I had beat many boys and women were doing it in the “real world.”
Billy Jean was easy to listen to. Grateful that she narrated this story. Thank you Audible.

I found the combination of songs and history quite interesting. I did not have to learn something new to appreciate the perspective.
I hope others who are not people of color, can listen without the deep rooted prejudice I know exists in this country.

Historia
When Cristela Alonzo and her family lived as squatters in an abandoned diner, they only had two luxuries: a television and a radio, which became her pop cultural touchstone and a guiding light. Cristela shares her experiences and struggles of being a first-generation American, her dreams of becoming a comedian, and how it feels to be a creator in a world that often minimizes people of color and women.

Music is key in my life too!
Revisado: 04-22-21
Although it took me a while to finish the book, it was easy to “fall” back into it each time.
I was able to connect with experiences, similar programs, and definitely the music chosen by Cristela.
I knew who she was before listening but now feel like I really know her. We are of different Latino ethnicity yet... we have common life experiences, especially the ignorant question: “Where are you from?” I wonder if she would agree with me that when I get the question from another person of color, I feel like they are asking to know about my culture, language, and experiences in a positive regard; to learn.
When I get the question from Caucasians, I feel like they are QUESTIONING my place in this country- USA. Certainly NOT in a positive way.

Historia
Is bourbon the quintessential American liquor? Bourbon is not just alcohol - the amber-colored drink is deeply ingrained in American culture and tangled in American history. From the early days of raw corn liquor to the myriad distilleries that have proliferated around the country today, bourbon is a symbol of the United States. This course traces bourbon's entire history, from the 1700s, with Irish, Scottish, and French settlers setting up stills and making distilled spirits in the New World, through today's booming resurgence.

I thought I could enjoy some bourbon as I listened
Revisado: 07-23-20
Okay, in all honesty, I have not finished the book. I just couldn’t. Now, this does not mean that I will not listen again, but... it is not a book to listen to as you enjoy a bourbon.
The narrator talks a mile a minute- if that makes sense. He talks so fast, I had to stop several times in different chapters to make sure I understood. I felt rushed! I started to drink to fast- not what you want to do with a bourbon.
I looked at the chapter titles again, convinced myself that it would get better, tried again, but- for now I give up. Maybe on cold winter days, when I want to learn and be energized, I will be able to listen for longer periods of time. I so want to learn more about bourbon but this may not be the book for me.

Revisado: 07-20-20
Have followed Sally Field since The Flying Nun. I was a few years too young to have appreciated Gidget. She is an amazing actor!
This story is touching, raw, and heart- breaking and I am sure no one else could have told it but Sally Field. It is also a true story of survival, live, and success.
I listened to it in two days. The first day for six hours. I could not tear away. I wanted to know more.
I highly recommend the book!
