Historia
William Stoner is born at the end of the 19th century into a dirt-poor Missouri farming family. Sent to the state university to study agronomy, he instead falls in love with English literature and embraces a scholar's life, far different from the hardscrabble existence he has known. And yet as the years pass, Stoner encounters a succession of disappointments.

Good narrator but dull story
Revisado: 12-10-24
So glad this was a free pick. This book was dull dull dull. Follows the life of a simple man who doesn't really accomplish much and leads a boring, miserable life.

Historia
Sutton Spencer's ideas for her life were fairly simple: finish graduate school and fall in love. It would be a lot simpler if she could pinpoint exactly what she should do when she graduates in less than a year. Oh, and if she could figure out how to talk to a woman without feeling like a total mess, that would be great, too. Charlotte Thompson is very much the opposite.

Good story, excellent writing
Revisado: 09-12-24
While the story was predictable, this writer had me in tears. The coming out part to both the father and the public made me incredibly emotional. Loved this book overall. Had some very hot sexy scenes that were deliciously descriptive. I will look for more of this author.

Revisado: 05-02-24
With so many great reviews, I was so looking forward to this book. But what was this drivel? It dragged on so bad and the ending just...ENDED. I will definitely pass on this author in the future.

NOT the Johanna Lindsey you know
Revisado: 04-13-22
Sure it's part of the plus catalog right now so it was free. But....that was 10 hrs of my life wasted. Such a flat story line, no real romance, boring and the plot? Stupid. This is NOT Johanna Lindsey. Not sure if she just needed to get a book out to meet a deadline or something but this is by far the worst one I have listened to from her. Bring some of your older books to the audio platform and I will relisten but not this garbage.

Revisado: 04-13-22
I read this series years ago. Story is a lot of fluff and pander but it was enjoyable. Thought I would love the audio version as well so I went ahead and bought all three. Kinda sorry I did. This book DRAGS as an audio version. Did even finish all three.

Historia
Somewhere out beyond the edge of the universe there is a library that contains an infinite number of books, each one the story of another reality. One tells the story of your life as it is, along with another book for the other life you could have lived if you had made a different choice at any point in your life. While we all wonder how our lives might have been, what if you had the chance to go to the library and see for yourself? Would any of these other lives truly be better? In The Midnight Library, Nora Seed finds herself faced with this decision.

Everything about this book is just lovely. The writing, the story, the narrator. It grabbed me from the beginning and I couldn't stop. It has become one I listen to over and over again.

Historia
Caroline Overington's stunning fiction debut is a multi-voiced novel centred around a child's death and its terrible repercussions. In 1982 Victorian police were called to a home on a housing estate an hour west of Melbourne. There, they found a five-year-old boy lying still and silent on the carpet. There were no obvious signs of trauma, but the child, Jacob, died the next day. The story made the headlines, and hundreds attended the funeral. Few people were surprised when the boy's mother and her boyfriend went to prison for the crime.

Worth a listen
Revisado: 07-16-21
Came across this podcast several months into my IF journey. It has been some great information. However, while Gin Stephens seems very knowledgeable and easy to relate to, Melanie Avalon reminds me of those intensely obsessive girls in high school who just wanted to be skinny. I binge listened to the first 50 episodes and quickly became irritated with Melanie, often to the point I wish she would just stop going off on her ‘tangents’ and focus on the darn topic of the episode.
More importantly, she makes IF sound unhealthy whereas Gin focuses on BEING healthy and listening to your body. Melanie seems to be interested in trying every fad thing that hits the market, loads herself up with tons of different vitamins, experimental diet restrictions and topical enhancements. Yet in listening to her journey, while the IF lifestyle seems to have had a positive effect on Gin, the exact opposite can be said of the other host. She now suffers from major gut issues and low blood sugar and ‘all the stuff’.
This podcast, if you listen to Gin, can give you some great insight. If you listen to Melanie, you will become an UNHEALTHY IFer. Maybe think of her as what NOT to do?

Eight-year-old orphan Beth Harmon is quiet, sullen, and by all appearances unremarkable. That is, until she plays her first game of chess. Her senses grow sharper, her thinking clearer, and for the first time in her life she feels herself fully in control. By the age of 16, she's competing for the US Open championship. But as Beth hones her skills on the professional circuit, the stakes get higher, her isolation grows more frightening, and the thought of escape becomes all the more tempting.

Overall I enjoyed the book though there were several times I thought it dragged on. Did the author have to meet a word limit or something? While I probably won't listen to it again, I am not upset I spent the time.
