Bad narration

I got this book after listening to the author's interview on the New Yorker Radio Hour. I was fascinated by the topic. The narrator reads the book in a rushed pace as if she has a train to catch. The book also assumes that you already know some of the historic background about the KKK. If you're looking to read this as an introductory piece about this topic, then this may not the book too start with. Also, better to buy a head copy then listen to it on audible.

Narration can kill a book

This is a really important topic but the narration felt so robotic that I keep tuning out. Wish I had the time to read it in print.

I was really looking forward to reading this book and decided to get it despite some of the reviews about the poor narration. The reviews were right. The narration is just awful. Complete
Snooze fest. I listened to it for 3 hours and just gave up. I'm just it's a great book to read, just not one worth listening to. Audible should have some standards about lousy narration.

Reads like a textbook

I'm a mental health professional and had been wanting to read this book for sometime. It sounded like listening to a grand round presentation. Very textbookish. I tried to listen to it for 2.5 hours and then gave up. The material in there is interesting - no doubt but just not presented in a palatable manner.
