Historia
Sebastian Rudd, rogue lawyer, defends people other lawyers won't go near. It's controversial and dangerous work, which is why Sebastian needs his bodyguard/assistant/sidekick: Partner. So if Sebastian is just about the most unpopular lawyer in town, why is Partner so loyal to him? How did they meet? And what's the real story of this man of few words who's as good with a gun as he is with the law? The surprising answers are all in PARTNERS, John Grisham's first exclusively digital short story.

A very nice prequel to Rogue Lawyer
Revisado: 05-25-20
I thought Rouge Lawyer was one of Grisham's better books. If you thought so, too, you'll enjoy this short story at a very modest price. "Partner" was the Rogue Lawyer's sidekick and this story tells how they came to be work buddies. It's story is "dated" properly in that it is set at the time the Rogue Lawyer was just becoming rogue. So it amplifies the kinds of cases in RL as it tells the story of Partner's case in particular. The plot is believable, the storyline is tight and involving, and Deakins narration top rate. Just one thing, though: Read Rogue Lawyer first if you haven't done so already.

Great narration helps a lack luster story.
Revisado: 05-25-20
Grisham writes some really great stories and some not so great ones. This is one of the latter. The plot line--a mystery involving the death of a writer new to Camino Island--is somewhat contrived and, at times, hard to believe. The storyline itself is full of unrelated, tangential material. Had I been reading it instead of listening to it, I would have simply flipped the pages. Grisham is a very good wordsmith and that helps and Beck's narration is top notch and kept me listening.
This book follows Camino Island, which is one of Grisham's really good stories, and involves many of the same characters. But nothing is done to develop them, which is sad because they were quite interesting in CI and had great potential.
If you are a Grisham lover, you might still pick this one up although you probably will be somewhat disappointed. If not a Grisham lover, you are better advised to just pass it over.

Historia
At the local state university, two feuding departments have faced off on the battleground of science and medicine. Each carries their views to extremes that may seem absurd, but highly educated people of sound mind and good intentions can reasonably disagree, right? Then a renowned and confrontational scholar winds up dead, and Virgil Flowers is brought in to investigate...and as he probes the recent ideological unrest, he soon comes to realize he's dealing with people who, on this one particular issue, are functionally crazy.

Neither Virgil nor Sandford are on their game
Revisado: 11-03-19
Eric Conger does his usual great job of narration in this newest Virgil Flowers novel but can't save a poor story. Other reviewers have noted that you need a spreadsheet to keep all the suspects clear and another who says that when we finally get to the reveal we get an "of course" moment. That's really true. What fails here is why Virgil even considers the vast majority of the other suspects given the simple facts of the case. In short, neither Virgil nor Sanford are up to their usual "game" on this one. If you are a Virgil fan and love all his books (I am and do), then go ahead and listen to this one. You may well find yourself, though, like me skipping ahead quite frequently to pass over irrelevant--dare I say "filler"--material.

A few stretches in the story
Revisado: 07-29-18
The story has a few hard to believe elements that challenge the narrative. Steadman's excellent narration of her own story (she's an accomplished performer) makes up for a lot. There were a times that I got so upset with the main character that I almost set the book aside. But I came back to it in the end.

A disapointment this time around
Revisado: 10-30-17
There were a number of problems with this installment of the Lisbeth Salander series. First, and a relatively minor one, was the constant shifting back and forth through time of the story line. That's a bit harder for an audible book to pull off well as opposed to reading it. The shifting occurred so often and suddenly that it was hard to follow. The more telling problem for me was that the characters too often acted out of character. They acted more like marionettes dancing to the storyline than characters driving the storyline themselves. I really liked "The girl in the spider's web" but this one was a real disappointment.

Historia
The Profiler's Daughter is a psychologically haunting thriller that combines murder mystery, love triangle, and family intrigue in one satisfying page burner. Sky Stone was born into the wealth and privilege of Boston's oldest Brahmin family but chooses instead to follow in the footsteps of her deceased father, legendary FBI profiler Monk Stone. In the chilly morning hours before the Boston Marathon, when a beautiful university student is found strangled and mutilated, her body left at the base of Heartbreak Hill, Sky returns from self-imposed exile to investigate.

Too much head chatter
Revisado: 06-03-14
What disappointed you about The Profiler's Daughter?
This book drags badly from listening to all the "chatter" in Sky's head--and her hang ups about--her former lover.

Historia
The rules are simple. Break up your shape. Hide your smell. Never show your silhouette. Check the surfaces of your kit. Space the movements of your team. Use the shadows. Danny "Badger" Baxter has a talent for surveillance. He's always followed the rules. Until now, they've kept him alive. But now, Badger has a bigger job than photographing dissident Northern Irish Republicans in muddy Ulster fields, or Islamic extremists on rain swept Yorkshire moors.

Performance renders a good story a poor one
Revisado: 04-15-14
Would you try another book from Gerald Seymour and/or Ralph Cosham?
Gerald Seymour writes a good narrative about British operatives in foreign lands.
What didn’t you like about Ralph Cosham’s performance?
The performance made this book "unlistenable" for me. In one word, it was monotone. There was little if any change in inflection or pace. It was like reading text without paragraphs, sentences, capitalization, or punctuation.
Any additional comments?
Listen carefully to the performance when considering this book. Imagine hours of the same.
