Highly disappointing. There were so many good plot points and arcs that could have taken the story forward. Explore the complexities of space faring civilisations, AI, living in a simulation……..and more.

Sorry Mr Taylor, after 3 deep thoughtful page turners, this one is a meh at best.

It is a light and easy ready but honestly I didn't quite enjoy it. I only picked it up because the author is SO celebrated but I couldn't appreciate it. Didn't feel like it had depth. Or it was so deep that I just couldn't recognize it.

This Dennis with this book and Ray Porter with his narration take you into a 'mind = blown' state of epic proportions. And it's a visual treat to boot.

I normally do not rave so and it happened to the first book I got on audible (was 4K rated back then). But I didn't have a reference on how good it was so I didn't bother to rate this or the next 2 books. But now, 3 years later thinking about this experience amid a lockdown takes me back to such a happy place.

If you enjoy quality sci fi that's more about exploring the philosophy of what it means to be human and at the same time stick to realm of 'real' (even if in a 1000 years) this book it for you.

It's a thriller. And it delivers. Let me frontload a few minor issues I thought the book has and then talk about the good stuff:

The core conflict the book explores is: are "extreme measures" justified in interrogation of terrorists and how PC police get in the way of national security. It felt like the author has a point of view and didn't attempt to explore the other side much.

That said, it's an absolute joy to read. There's mission, action, sense of duty, a smattering of heartwarming family scenes in the life of an otherwise hardened CIA officer. The pacing is just right. long action sequences, comic relief and political drama feel authentic.

This book is no Jason Bourne, in that it's not a very complicated plot. But the simplicity doesn't feel wrong. It's a good read.

(contains spoilers)

This books is a struggle to read through.

Will is immortal and sole commander of a ship that can travel faster than light and what does he do with it? Laments over his crush and whines about how bad life is. For 500 years! There is almost no character building. the events unfold so arbitrarily that you'd struggle to understand what the f*ck is going on. One minute he becomes God (literally) and next he's being eaten by a giant frog.

You'd see the plot twist at the end coming from a mile. It happens to be the only way to logically explain why the storyline jumps about so erratically and the characters keep focusing on the mundane in presence of colossal revelations like what is the nature of reality itself and the definition of sentience. But HEY! I don't want to spend 10 hrs listening to utter nonsense and then in a minute at the end be told 'this is why it was nonsense'. Just knowing the why doesn't make it any better.

If you haven't read Bobiverse, please do! It's magnificent and similar in genre.

It's hard to put this book down and Scott Brick has breathed the story into life in the most remarkable way. would definitely recommend

I left the book half way. the plot is thin and the characters are all uni dimensional. I found the concept to be engaging from the excerpt but the concept of time travel is not developed in any meaningful way.
