If you find stories about prison life fascinating, especially from the point of view of the guards, responsible for day to day operations in that world, you’ll like this audiobook. I have over 700 audible titles in my library, and can be picky. The author shares his experiences as a guard working in the prison system day to day. From the shocking and horrific, to the funny and mundane. His style is clear, flows very well, kept my interest from the very first, to last page, and, I think the narrator did an excellent job as well. He was animated, engaged, very professional, has a very pleasant voice, and, in my opinion, gives an entertaining performance of the authors narrative. This was a great pick. I’m pleased with it. I was not given any compensation for my review, or reduction in price. I just wanted to share my thoughts regarding this title. In my opinion, it’s a winner…

I haven’t even listened to this entire audiobook yet, I’m on chapter 39, but I just have to say this thriller is outstanding!. Not one chapter has been boring, the story hasn’t slowed down, every character is very believable, and the plot and turns in the story have grabbed my attention from the first chapter, and kept it!. I am really enjoying this story. This is the first book by this author I’ve read (listened to) I’m definitely going to read more of his books! New fan!! :)

Wow! This is one of the best audio books I have listened to! This book was very well written. The story flows. It doesn’t get bogged down with too much detail, and it’s just captivating from beginning to end. The reader does an excellent job, very talented artist. He draws you in as he tells the story, and his pace and inflection is perfect. I will look for other books read by this artist. He’s a new favorite. This is a gripping, well written, excellent book about a murdered young girl and the man who went to prison for her murder ......

Historia
Gary Gilmore, the infamous murderer immortalized by Norman Mailer in The Executioner's Song, campaigned for his own death and was executed by firing squad in 1977. Writer Mikal Gilmore is his younger brother. In Shot in the Heart, he tells the stunning story of their wildly dysfunctional family: their mother, a black sheep daughter of unforgiving Mormon farmers; their father, a drunk, thief, and con man. It was a family destroyed by a multigenerational history of child abuse, alcoholism, crime, adultery, and murder.

This audio book would be perfect if it wasn't abridged!!!
Revisado: 06-15-18
I read this book years ago, it was so good I read it more then once, so I was so excited when I found the audiobook available on audible, and I was even more excited when I realized that Will Patton was the narrator, he is one of my favorite narrators and does an excellent job reading this book too. But the party was over when I realized that this audible edition is abridged!!!! There is so much material missing. I was so dissapointed! I don't understand why anyone ever thinks it's a good idea to remove part of a book. I don't care if I have to pay more, or if the book costs less for an abridged version. I want the book in it's entirety. I hope audible will offer this title unabridged, soon. This is a very interesting book written by Garey Gilmore's brother, Mikal Gilmore, about growing up in their violent, disfuntional family. Read The Executioners Song, which audible has, unabridged, about Gary Gilmore, who killed two men and then fought for his right to die, written by Norman Mailer. Both books are excellent, but like I said, this version of Shot In The Heart is abridged....sigh.....very, very bad audible.com. Don't cheat us, we want our audio books uncut!! At least I do.......

Historia
From the outside, there was no reason to suspect the family life of young schoolchild Keri was anything but unremarkable. Two loving parents, a backdrop of 1960s Britain; life had provided for her, at least with the riches of modesty. Keri herself however, would often confound teachers with her erratic behaviour, which was at best sullen and withdrawn; at worst violently disruptive. When challenged, she would only exacerbate her growing reputation as a fantasist; weaving terrible tales about the "abuse" she was suffering at the hands of her very creators.

Riveting!! Couldn't stop listening.....
Revisado: 06-11-18
This is one of the most riveting, shocking audiobook accounts of abuse I have ever read/listened to. Keri's astounding level of recall, her ability to tell her story, which flows flawlessly, and naturally, in vivid detail, is stunning. I was shocked, spellbound, livid and furious as I listened to her recount the inhumane, cruel treatment she endured from her mother and step father. At times I was brought to tears. Keri's endurance, resilience, her ability to love, and her honesty made me love her. Her Nana, who showed Keri what love is, renewed my faith in people and helped me heal from the shock and heartbreak of this account, by showing how love conquers hate and how good can overcome evil. I will never forget Keri or her story. Get this one. It will change you.

This is the true-crime bestseller that was the basis for Martin Scorsese’s film masterpiece GoodFellas, which brought to life the violence, the excess, the families, the wives and girlfriends, the drugs, the payoffs, the paybacks, the jail time, and the Feds... with Henry Hill’s crackling narration drawn straight out of Wiseguy and overseeing all the unforgettable action.
Read it and experience the secret life inside the mob - from one who’s lived it. Now with an introduction by Martin Scorcese.-

Cheated! Abridged? Really? Why?
Revisado: 06-06-18
Ruined a good story. I would have given it five stars, but this book is abridged! Why would I want to read/hear an abridged version of this fascinating account? Come on audible, give us the unabridged, whole story! This abridged, stingy, three hour audio book is like watching half of a movie, what is the point? unsatisfying.... Sigh.......

A raw and often funny 12-month snapshot of seven-year-old Tommy's brutal young life. Moving us through his daily struggle with poverty and neglect in 1960s Manchester like it's the most natural thing in the world, Tommy lives at the heart of a large Irish family in derelict Hulme, ruled by an abusive and alcoholic father and a drunk, negligent mother.

Revisado: 05-16-17
I loved every minute of this audiobook! I loved the author's vivid, detailed memories of his childhood...They were shocking, sad and funny all at the same time, as he shared memories of his childhood days spent avoiding school, begging for change with his siblings, stealing, getting into mischief, and describing life through the eyes of a child with his alcoholic parents. This is the first time I've listened to Kevin Hely narrate, and he is now a new favorite! His irish brogue and performance of the narrative is spot on, perfect, and hilarious! I've already listened to this book twice, and I enjoyed the story and the narrator's Irish brogue and lively performance so much that I'm listening to it for the third time now. Kevin Hely is as charming as Frank McCourt! Love him!
