Historia
Name's Kane, Kate Kane. I'm a paranormal private investigator, which is like a normal private investigator except - and stop me if you're having trouble following this - more paranormal. This business comes with a few basic rules: don't start drinking before noon, don't get your partner killed, don't sleep with the woman who killed him. Last year I broke all of them.

Got Bored
Revisado: 07-04-21
Mages, vampires, werewolves, fairies and more fantastical creatures. Got confused and didn’t care enough to back it up and try to get oriented. I couldn’t seem to care about the main character. Gave up after chapter 5.

Historia
Luc O'Donnell is tangentially - and reluctantly - famous. His rock-star parents split when he was young, and the father he's never met spent the next 20 years cruising in and out of rehab. Now that his dad's making a comeback, Luc's back in the public eye, and one compromising photo is enough to ruin everything. To clean up his image, Luc has to find a nice normal relationship...and Oliver Blackwood is as nice and normal as they come. He's a barrister, an ethical vegetarian, and someone who has never inspired a moment of scandal in his life. He’s perfect boyfriend material.

Sweet and Clever
Revisado: 06-22-21
There wasn’t much to the story line, no suspense, no major twists or turns; however, the dialogue was masterfully written, very engaging with a fine humor. The narrator’s delivery suited the characters perfectly. I ended up liking the characters and caring what happened to them.

Historia
When I arrive unannounced at my husband's studio in need of a shoulder to cry on after hearing that my best student, Alex, has died, I see a pair of wineglasses drying by the sink, and my deepest fear is confirmed: my husband is having an affair. Most women would fall to their knees in tears and throw him out of the house - but I just can't bring myself to do it. Instead, I go home and cook a healthy dinner for our children, walk the dog, and unload the dishwasher without complaint. I need this marriage to work to protect a terrible secret of my own....

Implausible
Revisado: 06-09-21
First the good: the narration was excellent. The main character and her friend were likable. The plot moved right along with what were (at least initially) intriguing twists and turns.
Now the not so good: the twists and turns just kept coming, piling on top of each other. I finished the book because I did want to find out who did what and why. However, the last 30 mins were beyond the pale to the point of completely implausible.
Bottomline: I’m glad that I finished the book. It’s a good quick listen if you’re not hung up on realism. I’ll look for more books with this narrator.

After listening to murder and mayhem books, this was a very nice change of pace. Well written and well read, but without any real depth or nuance.

No Resolution
Revisado: 03-11-20
The characters are interesting and well developed. The plot has great action and breath catching moments. What’s not there is any kind of a resolution to the storyline. Rather than being a standalone book, this is an opening chapter. As intriguing as the heroine is, I won’t continue. It’s too much of a time commitment to just “find out what happens.”

Truly Frightening
Revisado: 03-05-20
Eisler writes ( and narrates) with real authenticity. If you read his bio, you will believe he has direct knowledge of the plot lines he employs. All I can say is ... please, dear God, let this be fiction!

Well Done
Revisado: 03-03-20
Normally I avoid books narrated by the author. Barry Eisler is an outstanding exception to that rule. For more info on why Eisler’s books feel so authentic, go Google his background. He definitely knows a whole lot about his topic! Yes, the book is slow to get into much action, but the character building that happens during that lull is essential to all of the later action acceleration. Stick with this book ... it definitely pays off.

Grisham returns to excellence
Revisado: 11-02-19
This is Grisham at his best. The epilogue lets the reader know that, although a work of fiction, the story is based on real life occurrences. The narration suits the characters and the events masterfully.
A disenchanted lawyer becomes an ordained man of the cloth who then returns to practicing law. His cases are all carefully chosen, wrongly accused men and women. All are currently serving long term prison time. The story is fascinating, gut wrenching and at times heart warming.
A truly wonderful book made all the more impactful because it’s based on actual cases.

Wait For It ...
Revisado: 04-04-19
I was really enjoying the narration, (Julia Whelan is a truly accomplished narrator) but thought the plot was unfolding quite slowly. And then I got to the last hour. This was a real “just wait for it” finish.
Two strong recommendations: get this book and don’t give up. The ending is excellent.

Historia
Teddy Cannon isn’t your typical 20-something woman. She’s resourceful. She’s bright. She’s scrappy. She can also read people with uncanny precision. What she doesn’t realize: She’s actually psychic. When a series of bad decisions leads Teddy to a run-in with the police, a mysterious stranger intervenes. He invites her to apply to the School for Psychics, a facility hidden off the coast of San Francisco where students are trained like Delta Force operatives: It’s competitive, cutthroat, and highly secretive.

Good Fun
Revisado: 03-29-19
A thoroughly enjoyable book with excellent narration. There are only two very minor drawbacks: 1) There are a number of characters introduced fairly quickly. But if you pay attention they soon become easy to keep separate. 2) The storyline moves along quickly with a good amount of action and mostly resolved open questions, but it finished with one big wide open question mark. Since the 2nd book will be released in a couple days, it was one of those open invitations to go get the next installment. Normally I don’t like that shtick, but this time it worked. I’ve pre-ordered book 2.
