Historia
Melanie is a very special girl. Dr. Caldwell calls her "our little genius". Every morning, Melanie waits in her cell to be collected for class. When they come for her, Sergeant keeps his gun pointing at her while two of his people strap her into the wheelchair. She thinks they don't like her. She jokes that she won't bite, but they don't laugh. Melanie loves school. She loves learning about spelling and sums and the world outside the classroom and the children's cells. She tells her favorite teacher all the things she'll do when she grows up.

Fresh take on zombie fiction.
Revisado: 01-31-24
I enjoyed this book immensely. The characters are vibrant and easy to differentiate, and the plot is well-written and well-executed, with snappy dialogue and an effective usage of the third person present tense format.
I suppose my one critique of the work is the swearwords peppered throughout. I find it detracts from the overall story, even though it adds punch to sentences.
Overall, a stellar example of zombie apocalypse fiction. Well-worth the listen.

Historia
Quentin Coldwater is brilliant but miserable. A senior in high school, he's still secretly preoccupied with a series of fantasy novels he read as a child, set in a magical land called Fillory. Imagine his surprise when he finds himself unexpectedly admitted to a very secret, very exclusive college of magic in upstate New York, where he receives a thorough and rigorous education in the craft of modern sorcery.

Good story, But does not deliver
Revisado: 08-23-16
I enjoyed the story well enough, especially in the first third of the novel. This is definitely written by someone who is both fascinated and repelled by Narnia. However, I found that the Novel did not work all that well. The characters are mostly unlikeable, and the funhouse mirror version of Narnia is off-putting.

Excellent!!!! My favorite of her stories!
Revisado: 08-20-09
I LOVE this book. I love the story and the characters. I have "read" it 3 times already. Romance is kept to a minimum and is quite chaste in it's wanderings. If you like Lois McMaster Bujold you should love this story.

Historia
Young, pregnant Fawn Bluefield has just fled her family's farm to the city of Glassforge, where she encounters a patrol of the enigmatic soldier-sorcerers known as Lakewalkers. Fawn has heard stories about the Lakewalkers, who are wandering necromancers with no permanent homes and no possessions except the clothes they wear and the mysterious knives they carry. What she does not know is that the Lakewalkers are engaged in a perilous campaign against inhuman and immortal magical entities known as "malices".

An intriguing take on fantasy
Revisado: 08-20-09
I love this author's stories and this on is no exception. So far in my fantasy quest I've read nothing like it. Men might find it a bit sentamental but as a married woman I was reminded of my courtship time. Although a bit explicit, it was a refreshing jogging of memory as well as being a well-spun tale with colorful characters.

Historia
Filled with magic, heroism, and all-too-human characters, Bujold's Sharing Knife saga is both a gripping adventure and a poignant romance. The farmers and riverfolk have long distrusted the power of the mysterious and aloof Lakewalkers. The proud Lakewalkers, meanwhile, have exiled Dag after learning of his marriage to Fawn, the first outsider to be bound to a Lakewalker in their magical way. But as Dag's natural Lakewalker ability to manipulate "ground energy" begins to develop in dangerous directions, he and Fawn realize that big changes are ahead.

My favorite in the series so far
Revisado: 08-20-09
The author adds some wonderful new characters to her story. It is very complex and thoughtful and breaks with the need to have everything come out perfectly tidy. This one also goes very scanty on the sex so that's a plus for me.

Historia
Filled with magic, heroism, and all-too-human characters, Bujold's Sharing Knife saga is both a gripping adventure and a poignant romance. In this second volume, Fawn Bluefield, the clever farm girl, and Dag Redwing Hickory, the seasoned Lakewalker soldier-sorcerer, are newly married. Their arrival at Dag's home on Hickory Lake Camp is met with prejudice and suspicion, as many in the camp deny the literal bond between Dag and Fawn, woven in blood in the Lakewalker magical way.

A well-done sequal
Revisado: 08-20-09
This is a continuation of the sharing knife story line, not just "another episode". As usual there isn't a ton of action but rather very colorful characters, some you like and some you very much do not.
Overall I am pleased with the story. My one complaint is that there is one scene that is a bit over-explicit but it is quite short.
