Historia
Audiobook three continues the story of the people of the small town of Cheshire as the grid-down crisis persists into a New England winter. Dissent and division grow among the people of New Hampshire as they endure greater grid-down hardship. A few food sources are found, but the prospects of everyone surviving the winter are getting slim.

Historia
The continuing story of the people of Cheshire, New Hampshire. Martin made it home after the outage (book one) but he still has to cope with a grid-down world, the resulting economic collapse, and governmental intrusion. Government agencies (FEMA, etc.,) offer aid, but demand total control in return. NH refuses to comply. For this, the authorities block aid to NH (a siege of sorts) in an attempt to force compliance. With no aid coming from outside, the people of Cheshire work to secure alternate food sources from what's available.

Great story continues with great narration!
Revisado: 12-24-23
This is one of my favorite series. The characters are well developed and the story line is interesting. I also appreciate that there is no cursing, which can be hard to find in this genre. I like the way the people come together to face difficult circumstances, often in creative (but not ridiculous) ways. The narration is fantastic! Mic does a great job with the different characters' voices, which is rare for an author narrating his own work. Overall, it's a great choice!

Historia
Do ordinary people have what it takes to survive in a grid-down world? Do you? When the power mysteriously goes out across the country, society does not instantly break down. Transportation does. Most people simply wait for things to get better. Martin thinks trouble is coming. His plan B is to walk the 50 miles from Boston to his home in New Hampshire. His plan B must be revised, however. He did not plan on meeting Susan.

Great characters and narration!
Revisado: 05-14-22
If you're looking for a wholesome story about likable people who pull together to overcome adversity, you'll enjoy this book! I first heard this story as episodes in a podcast, and really enjoyed it! The main character isn't James Bond or some macho hero type. He's creative and old fashioned and tries to do the right thing, but things go wrong... thus the title. (There is also no bad language, which is a rare treat these days.) The narration is well done- it's easy to distinguish the characters' voices. Other reviewers were frustrated with Susan, but don't judge too quickly... she might just surprise you!

Historia
Eerie, dreamlike, set in a world that is weirdly related to our own, The Gunslinger introduces Roland Deschain of Gilead, of In-World that was, as he pursues his enigmatic antagonist to the mountains that separate the desert from the Western Sea in the first volume of The Dark Tower series. Roland, the last gunslinger, is a solitary figure, perhaps accursed, who with a strange single-mindedness traverses an exhausted, almost timeless landscape of good and evil.

A Humble Beginning to a Great Series
Revisado: 05-14-10
I have to admit at the outset that this is one of my favorite series... but it didn't start out that way. I loved The Gunslinger; he's such a flawed yet redeemable character. (And I'm so sorry that Clint Eastwood isn't young enough to play him in the inevitable movie; I can't imagine that anyone else could do him justice.)
This book gives you a glimpse of who he is, but it isn't until the fourth book that you really get the back story. I took a break after the 3rd book; I didn't like the way it wound down. It took a while to start the fourth. But I was glad I did, it's a good one. The sixth (Song of Susannah) is also a bit slow, but necessary and interesting (and short).
I didn't really appreciate the series until I had completely finished the last book - especially the Epilogue. The series as a whole is beautifully constructed and has a very interesting premise.
About the narrators, I love George Guidall and had a hard time when it switched to Frank Mueller. But Mueller is a wonderful narrator, just with a different style. And he does (used to do) a lot of audio for King's novels. (He does The Talisman, which is one of my favorites.) He was injured in an accident and can no longer perform.
Anyway, I truly recommend this one. Even if the book isn't your cup of tea, the narration is incredible and makes it enjoyable. If you liked this one at all, give the second one a try and meet Eddie and Susannah before you decide.

Historia
This is the story of Despereaux Tilling, a mouse in love with music, stories, and a princess named Pea. It is also the story of a rat called Roscuro, who lives in darkness but covets a world filled with light. And it is the story of Miggery Sow, a slow-witted serving girl with a simple, impossible wish. These characters are about to embark on a journey that will lead them down into a horrible dungeon, up into a glittering castle, and ultimately, into each other's lives.

Historia
John Perry did two things on his 75th birthday. First he visited his wife's grave. Then he joined the army. The good news is that humanity finally made it into interstellar space. The bad news is that planets fit to live on are scarce—and alien races willing to fight us for them are common. So: we fight. To defend Earth, and to stake our own claim to planetary real estate. Far from Earth, the war has been going on for decades: brutal, bloody, unyielding. Earth itself is a backwater.

Nice Read
Revisado: 07-30-08
Nice pace, nice character development, interesting ideas about how our values would change if the parameters of our existence changed, and well placed levity. I kind of pictured the main character as Clint Eastwood. Always looked forward to listening to the next chapter.

Excellent
Revisado: 07-23-08
This was an excellent book. My first by this author. The characters are well developed. The narrator is wonderful. I generally anticipated where the story was heading, but not in a bad way. I thought about it for days after I'd finished; usually the mark of a good one. Enjoy.
