Historia
Lisbeth Salander—the heart of Larsson’s two previous novels—lies in critical condition, a bullet wound to her head, in the intensive care unit of a Swedish city hospital. She’s fighting for her life in more ways than one: if and when she recovers, she’ll be taken back to Stockholm to stand trial for three murders. With the help of her friend, journalist Mikael Blomkvist, she will not only have to prove her innocence, but also identify and denounce those in authority.

And I love the movie. Great writing and a wonderful narrator. Highly recommended. Raymond Chandler has to be the master of the simile.

Historia
Al Franken, Giant of the Senate is a book about an unlikely campaign that had an even more improbable ending: the closest outcome in history and an unprecedented eight-month recount saga, which is pretty funny in retrospect. It's a book about what happens when the nation's foremost progressive satirist gets a chance to serve in the United States Senate and, defying the low expectations of the pundit class, actually turns out to be good at it.

Outstanding
Revisado: 08-08-17
An inside view of how the senate works-what it's like to work there-and how it was that he got there. All in a conversational style that draws you in and keeps you enthralled, even while meandering through the details like those of the health care debate. I've never heard a clearer explanation, by the way.
One of the very best books I've listened to. Such a plus to have the author' s own, distinctive voice.
This book made me laugh and gave me hope.

Kevin Whately could read the dictionary and I would still listen
Revisado: 01-24-17
It's a wonderful story, but "abridged" means there's quite a bit left out. After reading the book, and seeing all the things that were omitted , I can kind of understand why those decisions were made . However those omissions really detract from the enjoyment of the story . The narration is lovely of course . But if you really want to understand what happens in this book you have to read it in its original form . That's why only give it four stars .

Historia
Confined to a hospital bed, Scotland Yard's Inspector Alan Grant is bored. To divert his attention from his pain, a friend brings him pictures of faces. He becomes engrossed with the portrait of Richard III. How is it possible that such a sensitive-appearing soul could have been portrayed as the odious villain, the Wicked Uncle of history, responsible for the murder of his young nephews, heirs to the British throne, in order to secure the line of succession for himself?

Said to be the "greatest mystery ever written"
Revisado: 07-25-14
Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?
Yes, I would definitely recommend it. We read this book in my book club and all of the members enjoyed it. I read the book as well as listened. It was a bit complicated as a listen; there are many details about history that were a bit challenging to keep straight. The family trees in the beginning of the printed version were very necessary for me to keep things straight.
What other book might you compare The Daughter of Time to and why?
It's quite unique as far as I know - I can't think of another book quite like it.
Have you listened to any of Derek Jacobi’s other performances before? How does this one compare?
This was the first book I have heard with Derek Jacobi as a narrator. Just as wonderful as I expected, with just one flaw - his American accent (for one of the characters) was surprisingly poor. I was wishing he might take lessons from Hugh Laurie. Other than that, his narration was beautiful, of course.
Any additional comments?
If you like police procedurals and history, this book combines them beautifully. Josephine Tey's style is smart, artful, and enjoyable.

Revisado: 05-27-14
What did you love best about A Christmas Carol: A Signature Performance by Tim Curry?
Tim Curry brings the story to life. His acts more than narrates. Each character is clearly delineated and completely believable. His diction is perfect. I have listened to this story as told by Tim Curry at least a dozen times. If you love this story, as I have loved it for years, you will not be disappointed by this version.
Who was your favorite character and why?
Ebeneezer of course.
Which character – as performed by Tim Curry – was your favorite?
All the characters are beautifully performed.
Any additional comments?
Get this one if you love Dickens.
