A Fluffy Missed Opportunity
Revisado: 07-24-20
There is simply too much fiction in this book that serves to cheapen the legacy of Emily Roebling (not to mention her husband and P.T. Barnum). She and her story deserve more than completely fictional affairs and conjured villains. It is difficult to believe that a woman who is represented here as somewhat naive and flirtatious could have achieved what she did. It's a shame, given what a great example of a woman in STEM could have been made of this character.

Slow but important
Revisado: 11-20-15
What made the experience of listening to Soldier Girls the most enjoyable?
It offered a window into a life that many of us have never really know much about. I was glad I listened to it.
What other book might you compare Soldier Girls to and why?
Perhaps some books about soldiers in other wars.
Would you be willing to try another one of Donna Postel’s performances?
Maybe not. The reading was quite slow. I had to speed it up to stand it.
If you were to make a film of this book, what would the tag line be?
I would not make a film of this book.

Reve and her husband are world-famous Las Vegas illusionists. They have three lovely young daughters, a beautiful home, and what seems like a charmed life. But Reve’s world is shattered....

Sprawling Story
Revisado: 11-12-15
Is there anything you would change about this book?
I would simplify it some. Though most pieces get pulled back together, it's too sprawling. It seems clear that the author is establishing a base for more novels but it gets a little ridiculous in the second half.
Would you be willing to try another book from Chrysler Szarlan? Why or why not?
Her descriptive writing was beautiful. The characters were not as strong. Maybe I'd try a shorter, simpler book.
Which character – as performed by Cassandra Campbell – was your favorite?
The Revelation in the portrait.
Could you see The Hawley Book of the Dead being made into a movie or a TV series? Who should the stars be?
Maybe.

Knows It All
Revisado: 01-13-15
This book wasn’t for you, but who do you think might enjoy it more?
Someone who really knows absolutely nothing about parenting.
What was most disappointing about Pamela Donnelly’s story?
There just was not much special information that was worth paying for.
How did the narrator detract from the book?
Yes. There was a condescending, stereotypical upper class attitude.

Any additional comments?
The sound on this is full of echos and you cannot make out all of the words. My kids begged me to turn it off in the car immediately.
