Historia
In the future, the world is at war. For the last decade, King Lazuli of the Eastern Empire has systematically taken over the world. No one knows much about him other than a series of impossible facts: he cannot die, he has not aged since the conflict began, and he wants to rule the world. All Serenity Freeman has known is bloodshed. War has taken away her mother, her home, her safety. As the future emissary of the Western United Nations, the last autonomous region of the globe, she is responsible for forging alliances where she can.

Warning
Revisado: 03-30-24
This book could be triggering for victims of narcissistic and/or sexual abuse. I mean she is 19 and he is in this 30’s which is icky. The King is a horrible man and the abuse Serenity not only endures but excepts during these stories screams victim of Stackholm syndrome. My feelings about this book are much like Serenity’s feelings for the King complicated and confusing but undoubtedly strong. I love Laura’s other Books please do not judge her on this series. She is an amazing author and even this series has an ending that is wonderfully choreographed. Be warned if you start you must read until the end of the last book.

She’s a martyr. A myth. A ghost. A legend. She’s my soulmate and my captive, my conscience and my wrath. I love her too much to let her die; I fear her too much to wake her from her slumber. She’s mine. And now she’s gone. He’s unnatural. Undying. Unethical. Unstoppable. He’s the keeper of lies and lost souls. Mine slipped through his clutches. I am his wife, his queen, the love of his very long life. And soon, I will be his executioner.

The Queen
Revisado: 03-30-24
Honestly this is the best series I have ever listened to about stackholm syndrome. I don’t know how to put this Laura is an amazing author, I have loved every book I have listened to by her. This final book is genius however I had to endure the other two books to get here. Which is why it gets such a low rating. The King is a horrible man and the abuse Serenity not only endures but excepts during these stories screams victim of Stackholm syndrome. My feelings about this book are much like Serenity’s feelings for the King complicated and confusing but undoubtedly strong.

Good story but.. the Narrator
Revisado: 12-06-23
The narrative was charming and had the potential to be even better, however, the delivery of the narrator lacked emotion. It seemed as though they were reciting information from a formal report or an educational textbook. If the book had been any longer, I would have considered discontinuing it. I must acknowledge that the narrator did a commendable job distinguishing each character's voice, but the absence of emotional expression truly diminished my enjoyment of the book. It is challenging to fully appreciate a love story without the narrator conveying the passion through their voice. Perhaps this particular genre is not well-suited for the narrator, as they did not seem to enjoy the book.
