In time, the tablet's true purpose becomes clear: It is the harbinger of an eons-dead god whose reemergence will steep the world in terror and suffering. What is FEAR? Just ask Mr Ibsen!
Revisado: 09-03-17
I've always loved Ambrose Ibsen's books and he has become one of my favorite horror authors. Mr Ibsen writes in a very poetic language with very vivid descriptions and is one of the few who delivers a 5-star description of what fear feels like. He does in this book - many times - and we'll find out that fear doesn't feel the same way for anyone.
I was disappointed in this book though, because it took too long before getting to the point. When a character is about to do something and I have to go through two pages of a description of this characters fear, I fall apart before getting to the point and keep thinking: What will he DO and what is the OUTCOME? So this book didn't work for me like the others, but I'm not telling you not to read/listen to it, if you love Ibsen's books. It could be just me. However, I'm still looking forward to the next book by Ibsen and I'm sure I'll think it's amazing.
Jake Urry narrates amazingly as he always does in the horror genre and the poetic descriptions in this book was very well done and also provides some heart-pounding sound effects. As I've said before about Mr Urry - he's a master in the thriller/horror genre and never disappoints.

A light fairy tale
Revisado: 09-03-17
Masked Love is like a fairy tale - for kids or early teens. It reminds me of Barbara Cartland, just without the Dickens and Shakespeare.
As a very grown up adult, I missed a lot more to this story. I missed some drama and tragedy for it to work out in the end. The Ugly Duckling also went through a lot before his happily-ever-after.
This book is as light and sweet as it can ever be and is wishful-thinking story about falling in love with someone you can't really have. And if I would expect a light fairy tale, I liked it.
Melanie Fraser narrates in a very poetic way, which fits this story perfectly.

Historia
It’s 2011, and Samuel Andresen-Anderson—college professor, stalled writer—has a Nix of his own: his mother, Faye. He hasn’t seen her in decades, not since she abandoned the family when he was a boy. Now she’s re-appeared, having committed an absurd crime that electrifies the nightly news, beguiles the internet, and inflames a politically divided country. The media paints Faye as a radical hippie with a sordid past, but as far as Samuel knows, his mother was an ordinary girl who married her high-school sweetheart.

We all have a Nix
Revisado: 09-03-17
We all have a nix. I have many, so I stumbled through this book despite that at least 4 hours (of the 22) didn't make sense to the story at all. If it wasn't for Ari Fliakos, I would have thrown in the towel after the first 2 hours.
The writing is exceptional and reminds me of Jonathan Safran Foer (haven't read Franzen, yet) but there are chapters that could be skipped, because the characters didn't fit in the story and weren't connected with the main characters. I skipped 20 minutes of a chapter, because I just couldn't take it anymore.
The 18 hours that I loved - I really loved! It was fun, gripping, amazing, devastating, heartbreaking etc., so Nathan Hill is forgiven. And forgiveness is a great deal and maybe also the point of The Nix. I will look out for the his next book, if that will happen and I'll look forward to watching the TV series.
Ari F. did an amazing job in narrating the story and I always look out for books narrated by him.

It was too dark for me, sorry...
Revisado: 07-23-17
For strong fantasy fans this book might just be the catch. It didn't work for me though, as it didn't contain the elements I want in a fantasy novel. It was way too dark for me and I'm also very hard to satisfy when it comes to this genre. However, if you love fantasy, this book has a lot of strong fantasy elements, so you might not think the same as me. Jake Urry did a great performance, as he is a master in dark stories.

That's it?
Revisado: 06-01-17
We've all waited for ages for this last book in this series and I was overly exited to finally get the conclusion of Vlad and Leyla's story. I couldn't be more disappointed in this book, though!
This isn't about Vlad - it's about Leyla and I really don't recall Leyla being this weak and whiny. Both the author and the narrator portrayed Leyla as that. I rolled my eyes several times when Leyla started crying, which she does for 90% of this book.
The best part is when Ian pops up. I love his character and his sarcastic sense of humor and I had some great laughs here. But OMG, I'll never forget this book and how disappointing it was and it's not like any of the previous books in the series. Now I look forward to Ian's series.

The best in the series so far!
Revisado: 05-03-17
I've been waiting for the 3rd book in the Ulrich files for a long time, and the day has risen! Yay! I think this is the best book in the series so far. It didn't disappoint a bit and it contains a spellbinding story. Also a story full of suspense, chills and heartbreak. Ambrose Ibsen really did it this time.
Narrator Jake Urry is always perfect for this genre and in this book there where chilling sound effects, which made the setting so much better. I really felt I was there, which could seem not so cozy, because the story certainly wasn't. Jake is getting (again!) 5 stars for his magnificent performance and sound effects in this thriller.

A novella full of suspense
Revisado: 05-03-17
What could possibly go wrong with this author? Nothing! From the beginning I was hooked and my stomach cringed several times, during the first chapters. The topic is heartbreaking and horrible, so be prepared to be mad at the antagonist. I was several times! This is a short story/novella that is not to be read/listened to before bedtime!
Jake Urry is narrating this novella to perfection and he is the perfect choice for this genre in general. He still manages to make my heart pound of anger and chills when listening to a book like this. 5 stars to Jake Urry!

This series is getting better!
Revisado: 05-03-17
I wasn't very fond of the first two books in this series, but this 3rd book held my attention, although it's still not one of my favorite series. The story was better this time and I was more connected to the characters, as I felt I got to know them better.
This is definitely a very well-written series and the author knows exactly what he's doing - for that, I will have to give 4 stars. However, sometimes a setting just doesn't feel right for everybody, but that doesn't mean it wouldn't feel right for you.
I love Melanie Fraser as a narrator and as usual she did an excellent job. She has the perfect voice for this genre, sounding very majestic and aristocratic. 5 stars to Melanie!

Another beloved mystery!
Revisado: 04-05-17
I love the Damien Dickens Mysteries and enjoy every aspects of them. All the books are filled with main characters you'll like and funny twists. They're cozy, they're whodunnit and they're brilliant! There's no exception for this one. My favorite character is still Millie who, from the beginning, has always saved the day. And to the dog-people - nope, it's not a book about dogs - enjoy the mystery!
For the past books I was ambivalent about the narrator. This 3rd book has a new narrator and I'm not impressed. I had really hoped it would get better, but not for me. It was hard for me to follow the story, because the voice switch for the characters weren't very clear and Millie now has an even deeper voice. Harry Dyson is not good with female voices and there's not much difference in male voices. I wasn't impressed with the production either, but it seems, from reading other reviews, that I was the only one who noticed. I will READ the future books instead, because I really love Phyllis Entis' stories.

A regency without humour, doesn't work for me
Revisado: 02-21-17
I love regency novels, but this novel was very disppointing. Although the writing was good and the plot made sense it lacked something that's really important to me when reading this genre - especielly when it's a British novel - HUMOUR. It has nothing of that kind. And I mean Rhys Bowen-humour mixed with a huge storyline. I didn't care for any of the characters, none of them were likeable or even much alive. I'm sorry...
Narrator Melanie Fraser always does a wonderful job and is very good with all the different voices. She always makes characters come to life and also in this one. I just didn't find the characters to be developed enough and I found the storyline boring. 5 stars to Ms Fraser for her great efforts.
