Very V
Revisado: 09-02-16
A good book adaptation of the V story. Many parts of this story could've used more development, but the book itself didn't elaborate much beyond the original comic book which is unfortunate. However this is still a great story, I was hoping for more of it.
The Narration by Simon Vance is once again top notch and I found it to greatly enhance the book experience. While watching the movie after listening to the book I could still hear Mr. Vance's voice over the movie as the dialog is practically word-for-word.
I would suggest reading 1984 and then at some point after reading this book. They go well together.

Historia
The Addictive Brain is a fair and balanced investigation of addiction, backed by hard science and behavioral science. Most of us have probably seen the old antidrug commercial in which an actor compares your brain on drugs to an egg sizzling in a hot frying pan. That's a powerful image, but it doesn't tell us what actually happens when drugs enter your body and interact with neurochemical processes.

Detailed Information, very well presented
Revisado: 02-13-16
I enjoyed listening to this course, Professor Polk did excellent work with this coarse. Information was well presented, organized, and detailed. Learning about the biological effects on the brain from different sources and how it can cope and adapt was particularly interesting. If anything even more detailed information would have been welcome!
If you have even just a passing interest in how the brain works, this coarse will have something for you.

I liked listening to this book. It was a relatively light listen and kept my interest. At the same time I would have liked some parts to go into more detail, but overall a great introduction to cosmology.

Good 2nd book in this series.
Revisado: 06-15-15
Following the surprisingly good first book "Breakfast with Buddha" I jumped right into this book and was not disappointed. I kept the 5 Star rating, but I'd probably give it 4.5 if I was comparing it to the first book. Without spoiling any of the story, it is a good sequel and continues on the original story's path of self discovery through life's ups & downs.
Narration continues same as first book, so you know what to expect.

Diamond in the rough
Revisado: 04-02-15
I got this book on a whim, mostly based on the great reviews. I am very glad I did. It's been a while since a fiction book has gripped me the way this one has. It takes a little while to start, but once it did I couldn't stop listening!
A great introduction story for those curious about a different point of view on spirituality, and daily life. The end of the book came all too quickly...
The choice of narrator and narration itself was also spot-on for this book.
Recommended!

Good traditional information on Buddhism
Revisado: 08-10-14
I found this audiobook version of this great book.
This is a great source of information on Buddhist precepts & philosophy. It is delivered in a more traditional type language which can be a little harder to grasp and process so careful and slow listening is recommended. The narrator does a good job, though I would maybe have liked some more variation in his tone.
I would say this is a more "advanced beginner" type book where a lot of information is well explained, in addition, now we start building upon some fundamental concepts. If this is your first experience with Buddism, take your time, do not rush listening as there is a lot here.
Having a PDF version of some of the listings and interactions would be a great addition to this audiobook.

Information on the processed food industry
Revisado: 05-31-14
I found this book very informative on the industry of processed food. Making "something" people will buy and eat at the lowest cost possible. I was especially surprised the author was able to interview people and name names!
So many books of this type only list lists opinions from the author(s) and try to pass them on as factual which is nice, but not useful. This book goes the extra length by interviewing key industry people and explaining the research done and science behind processed food products
Naration was top notch, as I would expect from Scott Brick.
Highly recommended.

John Perry’s insights and laugh-out-loud humor bring to mind Thurber, Wodehouse, and Harry Frankfurt’s On Bullshit. This charming and accessible audio educates, entertains, and illuminates a universal subject. Procrastinators will be relieved to learn that you can actually accomplish quite a lot while procrastinating. In fact, the book itself is the result of Perry avoiding grading papers, refereeing academic proposals, and reviewing dissertation drafts. It also has a practical side, offering up advice that listeners can put to use.

Not doing what you know you should
Revisado: 05-25-14
This is an essay (I hesitate to call it a book per say) about not doing what you know you should be. It is thought provoking if you can identify with this type of character trait. If you are not a procrastinator then you probably don't understand what message this essay is trying to convey.
For those who recognize themselves as procrastinators and "horizontal filers" it is worth a listen. It is short, and might just make you think of attacking your to-do list, even if it's not the top most important item on your list!

The Mind simplified by Michio Kaku
Revisado: 05-21-14
Dr. Kaku does a good job presenting the latest scientific experiments and research concerning the brain. There are some very good chapters explaining consciousness from a scientific perspective which I found quite insightful. This book is well organized, and maybe a little over simplified. To me it reads as a summary of research papers from the last 5 to 7 years or so. Overall educational for people not in the field.
To this there are some creative viewpoints added here and there to make this book feel somewhat more dynamic to listen to than dry information which is nice.
Narration was a bit flat, but appropriate for the subject matter.
Overall an okay book, may not age very well so if you are thinking of reading it I'd suggest to do it sooner rather than later.

Very good lectures on mindfulness!
Revisado: 09-19-13
I found Dr. Muesse did good work researching and explaining mindfulness. Each lecture was well presented with good use of vocals to keep the listener's attention.
I found the best part to be the first lecture of this series. The example given is unquestionably THE best example I've ever read or heard of the differences between an untrained (or distracted) mind, and a mind which routinely goes through mindfulness meditation and exercises. I can't say enough good about the first chapter. The following lectures buildup from there, I found myself hooked right from the start.
Also, of particular note is the acknowledgement that this course is Dr. Muesse's interpretation on the subject matter. I could see the great lengths the author went through to present the subject material in as an objective way as possible. For me this is a huge difference between one-sided self help books, and academic learning.
I would recommend this to people curious about what meditation is, and what in particular mindfulness meditation is. Then it's effect on a person's outlook and quality of life.
All in all this is one of the best introduction coarse on mindfulness I have had the opportunity to listen/read. Recommended!
