Historia
Young Julie Harmon works "hard as a man", they say, so hard that at times she's not sure she can stop. People depend on her to slaughter the hogs and nurse the dying. People are weak, and there is so much to do. At just 17 she marries and moves down into the valley of Gap Creek, where perhaps life will be better. But Julie and Hank's new life in the valley, in the last years of the 19th century, is more complicated than the couple ever imagined.

Incredibly depressing

This is a story that shows the cruelty of poverty and the resilience of good people. Hard to read.

Historia
Only God knew why Jillian Slater agreed to return to New Orleans on the news that her father had finally drunk himself to death. It's not like they were close. She hadn't seen him - or her grandmother, the ice queen - in almost 20 years. But when Adella Atwater, the manager of her grandmother's apartment house, called and said her expenses would be paid if she'd fly in for the burial, a free trip to New Orleans was too intriguing to resist.

Who knew Beth could write Fiction?
Revisado: 11-06-16
This is the first fiction I've read from Beth Moore. She is a good writer, but I didn't know if she could jump from nonfiction to fiction.
She did and it is a great read! Loved the wit, I fell in love with the characters, and I appreciated the gradual introduction of God into their lives. Believable, genuine, enjoyable.

Historia
Cynthia Piantedosi lives a quiet, unassuming life with her elderly father just outside of Boston. When she loses her beloved grandmother as a child, her faith takes a turn for the devout, and she begins experiencing what she describes as "spells" - moments of such intense prayer that she loses herself. Uninterested in boys and a social life, she develops a deep friendship with the parish priest, whose ideas are often seen as too provocative by his congregation but who encourages her to explore her spells.

I enjoyed it until the last page.
Revisado: 08-15-16
I appreciate a book about beautiful faith. Deep prayer, yearning for a relationship with God. For those who understand why Jesus came to earth the last page will be a disappointment. Until that moment I was highly engaged. At the end I was left puzzled with the author's choice. Not necessary, already been done.

Delightful
Revisado: 07-02-16
I approached this read with skepticism because of a couple of reviews concerning the narrator. What I heard, however, was a joy filled voice telling a great story. If it was a poor French accent I didn't know it. I suspect many readers would prefer easily understood English pronunciation with only a hint of the French accent. It enables us to understand more readily. The storyline was sprinkled with the presence of a loving God who was praised and approached in prayer. I appreciated the occasional scripture references. It was a fun read and I encourage others to read it.

An Outstanding Read
Revisado: 03-01-13
I appreciated the author gradually leading us as the characters learn to understand God's love and mercy. Too often God is portrayed as a Santa Claus. Just pray and it will be healed, solved, found. In this book the central character has deep faith but develops an even deeper relationship with the Lord as the plot unfolds. God, in His infinite wisdom and love, is the hero of the story. He does not always answer overnight, nor does He always answer the way we wish, but He does answer. Surrendering to His will is a central theme. Congratulations to Kristen Heitzmann for writing a believable story about Christians that isn't trite or corny.

I loved the plot and the narrator is terrific. The author weaved believable characters into a beautiful story. I have long commutes to work and looked forward to the drive each day because that meant I could spend more time on Wildflower Hill. Well done.
