The premise is touching, and it begins as a wholesome book that I might have recommended for middle-graders and young high schoolers.
However, my low rating and not finishing the book is due to over-politicizing of the foster care program and some unwholesome themes. It's unbelievable to me that 11 or 12-year-olds would articulate (on more than one occasion) the disparities in foster care experiences when they haven't experienced them themselves.
Also, and this is a personal preference, the exploration of sexual preferences is not appropriate for the intended age group.

Ridiculousness for the Win

This story was so much fun. I wish I had 10 kids to share it with. But there’s much for adults too.
Kate Winslet has voice talents I wasn’t aware of. It’s almost as if the story was written for her to perform.

Everything Joanna Penn puts out is top-notch and applicable for all indie authors and most traditional authors.
There’s so much information in How to Market a Book that I’m off to buy myself a hard copy. This warrants a reread and marking up the pages.

A Consuming Story

Beautifully written, moving, educational. The narration is top-rate. This is not the sort of book I would have sought out, but it was recommended to me and I gave it a shot. I’m so glad I did; my life is richer for it. I believe I would read anything by Amor Towles at this point. And I so wish that Alexander Ilyich Rostov was a real person. Bravo!

Worth Every Second

Amazingly, I had never read Huck Finn before but when I saw it free on Audible and narrated by Elijah Wood I decided to give it a try. I am so glad I did. His performances are fantastic. The story is an apt portrayal of human nature. There’s a reason Mark Twain is famous (duh). I’d give it six stars!

Engaging and Heartwarming

Heart of a Shepherd is a stunning book. Sensitive, thoughtful, with a great 11-12 year old male voice. Boys and girls will enjoy it. Heartbreaking but empowering. Reverent and real. I’m so glad I read this book!

Priceless Information

This is one of the three top books I have read on writing craft. I expect to study it over and over. Brody lays it (novel-writing) out, dissects it, then puts it back together again multiple times. If you’ve never had a novel published buy and internalize this book!
