Historia
At the end of the Second World War, Cyril Conroy combines luck and a single canny investment to begin an enormous real estate empire, propelling his family from poverty to enormous wealth. His first order of business is to buy the Dutch House, a lavish estate in the suburbs outside of Philadelphia. Meant as a surprise for his wife, the house sets in motion the undoing of everyone he loves. The story is told by Cyril’s son Danny, as he and his older sister, the brilliantly acerbic and self-assured Maeve, are exiled from the house where they grew up by their stepmother.

The best!
Revisado: 11-13-19
I DID so enjoy this book. And let me be the first (yes, I’m attempting irony) to advise that Tom Hanks is really a joy. When his acting gig is up, he can make a fair living reading books. Thanks Ann and Tom!

Disappointing
Revisado: 10-28-19
The book's premise caused me to purchase, although I had reservations about Scott Aiello (the sample suggested he would over dramatize, and he did). The first quarter plus of the book was engaging but thereafter, it lagged. I finally quit about two thirds through it. I could not suspend disbelief regarding the world Riddle built (draining the Mediterranean; why?), and the character development just wasn't there. Although I hate to return a book, I returned this one.

Historia
Dr. Ross Greene, a distinguished clinician and pioneer in the treatment of kids with social, emotional, and behavioral challenges, has worked with thousands of explosive children, and he has good news: These kids aren’t attention-seeking, manipulative, or unmotivated, and their parents aren’t passive, permissive pushovers. Rather, explosive kids are lacking some crucial skills in the domains of flexibility/adaptability, frustration tolerance, and problem solving, and they require a different approach to parenting.

Worthwhile book; distracting narration
Revisado: 03-01-19
If you need help living or working with an explosive child, this book can help. The only negatives are the unhelpful chapter on medication and the narration which at times, seemed delivered by a computer: odd pauses, inappropriate emphases, and mispronunciation.

Couldn't go there
Revisado: 02-03-19
I'm a retired trial lawyer. I tried several hundred cases to jury verdicts, hundreds more to judicial decisions, and was in court regularly for more than forty years. Not suprisingly, I have a hard time suspending disbelief with courtroom dramas because most authors can't or choose not to accurately depict how the litigation system works. Author Finder has a good rep as a suspense writer, and I bought Judgment hoping for the best. Nope. Less than an hour into it, I had to quit. The reader was good (only three stars because of the book), though. I'd listen to her again. I should have picked a Finder thriller without a legal backdrop.

Historia
A resident of one of LA's toughest neighborhoods uses his blistering intellect to solve the crimes the LAPD ignores. East Long Beach. The LAPD is barely keeping up with the neighborhood's high crime rate. Murders go unsolved, lost children unrecovered. But someone from the neighborhood has taken it upon himself to help solve the cases the police can't or won't touch. They call him IQ. He's a loner and a high school dropout, his unassuming nature disguising a relentless determination and a fierce intelligence.

Historia
Zachary Quinto - best known for his role as the Nimoy-approved Spock in the recent Star Trek reboot and the menacing, power-stealing serial killer, Sylar, in Heroes - brings his well-earned sci-fi credentials and simmering intensity to this audio-exclusive novella from master storyteller John Scalzi. One day, not long from now, it becomes almost impossible to murder anyone - 999 times out of a thousand, anyone who is intentionally killed comes back. How? We don't know.

And it was over!
Revisado: 10-27-18
Bought this some time ago, and only got to read it recently. My point is a I forgot it is only 2 hours long and that it only cost a buck. I never use a credit on a book that is less than 10 hours long. So, expecting a 10 hour plus experience, I'm listening along, enjoying the ride, and it abruptly ended! What? If I had dropped a credit on this, I would have been pissed. Happily, I did not. Scalzi can return to the Dispatcher anytime to write a proper length book which I will happily buy. Great concept; great reader; good deal for a buck.

Couldn't Make Myself Finish
Revisado: 03-13-18
Bought this book based on its premise, which, unfortunately, could not sustain the novel. The longer I stuck with the book, the more I focused on the completely absurd premise. After seven hours, I just couldn't continue. Notwithstanding, I held onto the book for quite awhile before I faced the reality that I could never finish it. Obviously, I'm out of step with the almost four thousand folk who loved it. Oh well.

A story of a prosecution that does not end. It will need a second podcast, or at least a post script, to wrap up the French affair.

Great narrative; book missed the mark
Revisado: 10-10-17
David Thorp did a great job! His voice is easy to listen to and he handled multiple characters and accents with aplomb. The author created an intriguing mystery and wrote much of the book quite well. Unfortunately, much of the book was overwritten, and poorly edited. The author failed to finish the story, resorting to newspaper clippings to finish it. Had the Editor taken the author in hand, the reader could have been spared virtually unimportant digressions that barely moved the story. I suspect the book got to long to permit the author to properly finish off the mystery.

Historia
Reeling from a traumatic break-in, Emma wants a new place to live. But none of the apartments she sees are affordable or feel safe. Until One Folgate Street. The house is an architectural masterpiece: a minimalist design of pale stone, plate glass, and soaring ceilings. But there are rules. The enigmatic architect who designed the house retains full control: no books, no throw pillows, no photos or clutter or personal effects of any kind. The space is intended to transform its occupant—and it does.

Ennui - couldn't finish.
Revisado: 04-09-17
I could only get half way through. No mystery; no suspense; no one to like. I bought it because of the great reviews, and I kept on trying to finish for the same reason. Finally, I concluded I'll never finish it, and it was a roadblock to moving on to a better book.
