This essay comes from the NPR series This I Believe, which features brief personal reflections from both famous and unknown Americans. The pieces that make up the series compel listeners to rethink not only what and how they have arrived at their beliefs, but also the extent to which they share them with others.

I would like everyone to listen to this message from a great playwright.
What did you like best about this story?
This is a message of hope from the past.
What does the narrator bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?
The narrator, Norman Corwin, lived through the great wars of our time; and, has every reason to be depressed or hopeless.
What’s the most interesting tidbit you’ve picked up from this book?
I found this while searching for Kindle editions of the works of Norman Corwin. There are a few. I've purchased one and am beginning my journey reading the great radio voice-play scripts of the last century.
Any additional comments?
If this short essay is any indication I will find Norman Corwin to be an artist who is a guiding light.
