Not what I expected

I have purchased every book John Grisham he has ever published. I bought this book as a preorder as I do with all of his books. If you’re looking for a book mainly about slavery and how they were mistreated this is the book for you. If you are looking for a light read that has the usual John Grisham adventure this is not your book. Whoopi Goldberg’s narration was great an she should narrate more books.

I purchased this audiobook because Devney Perry’s Indigo Ridge was such a great story. This story was worth the credit also. The reason I only gave 4 stars was the narrator has long s and c’s. Who knew how many times s and c are in an audiobook. I suggest you listen to a sample before you buy. Will be looking for more of those two series.

This is a classic Grisham. Worth the credit. Kept me hanging on until the end. Lots of characters with more than one story line so I kept a list of the characters because I listen only in the car.

Good but not the usual

I wait every year for the October John Grisham book to be released. This book is written well but not the usual John Grisham story. I never read war stories and this book has a significant amount of time while Pete is in combat. The history was well researched as always. My three star rating on story is because of the totally unnecessary and just plain stupid ending. I get the fact that it was probably true in that period of time but WHY could there not have been a better ending! It could have been an amazing hail Mary to save the day but instead it was not worth finishing because it was too late to matter. Please rewrite this book with an alternate ending.

I have read them all and I am going for a repeat on the series.
What did you like best about this story?
Constant moving action. Dr Scarpetta is interesting and interested. Some of her previous books have her as depressed or overly brooding. This book may have been her best in the series.
