The Spinning Jenny was invented in 1770, and with that, a new era of manufacturing and industry changed lives everywhere within a generation. A world filled with unrest wrestles for control over this new world order: A mother’s husband is killed in a work accident due to negligence; a young woman fights to fund her school for impoverished children; a well-intentioned young man unexpectedly inherits a failing business; one man ruthlessly protects his wealth no matter the cost, all the while war cries are heard from France.

Historia
A place you will never forget. Rosamunde Pilcher's Scotland...where the fields flourish with greenery, the bills bloom with purple, and the lochs glitter with the bright blue of the sky. A time you will never forget. September...when the heather is in full flower, the first chill of autumn cools the air, and the countryside stirs with the hunt, balls, dinner parties, and dance. Rosamunde Pilcher's September...a story of homecomings and heartbreaks, friendships, betrayals, forgiveness, and love.

Enchanting
Revisado: 12-22-23
What a treasure! It was so nice to find this book right after listening to The Shell Seekers with some its characters that live on. Pilcher’s writing brings you into the lives of Scotland villages in a way I never knew. It is such a gift and a book I will always keep in my favourites. Also the vocal performance was fantastic. Thank you …. Such a great audio book.

Historia
Having sent his much-beloved but deceitful young wife Katheryn Howard to her beheading, King Henry fixes his lonely eyes on a more mature woman, 30-year-old, twice-widowed Katharine Parr. She, however, is in love with Sir Thomas Seymour, brother to the late Queen Jane. Aware of his rival, Henry sends him abroad, leaving Katharine no choice but to become Henry's sixth queen in 1543. The king is no longer in any condition to father a child, but Katharine is content to mother his three children, Mary, Elizabeth, and the longed-for male heir, Edward.

So in late 1969, when handsome Chase Andrews is found dead, the locals immediately suspect Kya Clark, the so-called Marsh Girl. But Kya is not what they say. Sensitive and intelligent, she has survived for years alone in the marsh that she calls home, finding friends in the gulls and lessons in the sand.

This lush novel, set in 1766 England and America, evokes an era ripe with riot and revolution, from the teeming streets of London to the sprawling grounds of a Virginia plantation. Mack McAsh burns with the desire to escape his life of slavery in Scottish coal mines while Lizzie Hallim is desperate to shed a life of sheltered subjugation to her spineless husband. United in America, their only chance for freedom lies beyond the Western frontier - if they're brave enough to take it.

Interesting in many ways
Revisado: 01-19-22
I loved it! It was interesting in so many ways. It was interesting to understand was like to be a coal miner in Scotland to be a slave there and owned by the coal mining operation. Then to understand what it was like to live in England in the mid-1700s and then to see the determination of someone to be free. It was so well- written. I love the story, the romance was great, too. Thank you, Ken.

This book has taken me back to a magical time. An unbelievable period of lives lived. I enjoyed it more than the Great Gatsby because it was true to the era, that kind of life was lived and so well described in this book. The performance was wonderful, too. thank you.
