Historia
Highlighting the fascinating link between a child’s neurological development and the way a parent reacts to misbehavior, No-Drama Discipline provides an effective, compassionate road map for dealing with tantrums, tensions, and tears - without causing a scene. Defining the true meaning of the “d” word (to instruct, not to shout or reprimand), the authors explain how to reach your child, redirect emotions, and turn a meltdown into an opportunity for growth.

This book is great…IF…
Revisado: 12-08-22
This book is great…IF your child is over the age of 4 and can communicate. And if you perhaps find yourself to have arguments with your children a lot.
Does not help much with a 1 year old who has no words and doesn’t understand much either. Although, it has great sections on understanding the brain and how to help yourself be a better parent. I intend to come back to this in a few years. Proceeding with my hunt for how to discipline toddlers who can’t speak and struggle with emotions… sigh.

Historia
Baby Boy Fisher was raised in institutions from the moment of his birth in prison to a single mother. He ultimately came to live with a foster family, where he endured near-constant verbal and physical abuse. In his midteens he escaped and enlisted in the navy, where he became a man of the world, raised by the family he created for himself. Finding Fish shows how, out of this unlikely mix of deprivation and hope, an artist was born.

Wow. Harrowing story.
Revisado: 12-07-22
The trauma and abuse he suffered as a child and still managed to build such a constructive, happy life. It’s amazing. Impressive. Great story. Narrator/reader delivers and excellent performance as well.

Historia
Jennette McCurdy was six years old when she had her first acting audition. Her mother’s dream was for her only daughter to become a star, and Jennette would do anything to make her mother happy. So she went along with what Mom called “calorie restriction." She endured extensive at-home makeovers while Mom chided, “Your eyelashes are invisible, okay? You think Dakota Fanning doesn’t tint hers?” She was even showered by Mom until age sixteen while sharing her diaries, email, and all her income. In I’m Glad My Mom Died, Jennette recounts all this in unflinching detail.

Wow. I love her delivery.
Revisado: 09-14-22
Jennette walks the finely drawn line between comedy and tragedy with her vocal delivery like an artistic pro. Sometimes I was chuckling at the naïvety of the small-child ideas despite knowing how damaging those are, and others she had me weeping. Weeping with her. Weeping /for/ her. Especially in one of the final chapters when you here her (reading her own words) choking up for just a split second as she reads. She was right when she said people with a sense of humor will get the title. And people with abusive parents will get it too. In fact, her title is what made me jump to read this book. I wanted to know I wasn’t alone in my resentment against a mother who’s supposed to love me unconditionally. Mothers are supposed to love and protect us and not be the monsters who hurt us. They’re supposed to be our safe place. Listening to her story, I am amazed she even made it as far as she did in Hollywood, I’m amazed she didn’t have a breakdown much younger, I’m amazed she lived to tell her tale and lived to go to recovery. To heal. To succeed. Many don’t. Congrats Jennette, 👏 you ARE doing great things and helping people you don’t even know.

Historia
Our brains do their best to help us out, but every so often they can be real assholes - having meltdowns, getting addicted to things, or shutting down completely at the worst possible moments. Your brain knows it's not good to do these things, but it can't help it sometimes - especially if it's obsessing about trauma it can't overcome. That's where this life-changing book comes in. With humor, patience, science, and lots of good-ole swearing, Dr. Faith explains what's going on in your skull, and talks you through the process of retraining your brain to respond appropriately....

Great book for adults. Terrible audio
Revisado: 08-24-20
Immediately upon playing the first 5 seconds I was praying this audio quality would get better. It does not. I give 5 stars for the first chapter of the book. 2 for audio quality. 3 overall because of the audio. I didn't want to listen to anymore. If re-recorded, I would gladly update my review to 5 stars.

Historia
Dale Maharidge’s father, like many World War II veterans, never talked about “the good war”. There was just one clue to his dad’s experience as a US Marine - a portrait with a close friend that hung permanently in their home. In The Dead Drink First, Dale, now a Pulitzer Prize-winning author, recounts his 18-year quest to find and repatriate the missing remains of his dad’s buddy, Herman Walter Mulligan, 73 years after he was killed in action.

Marines are not Soldiers
Revisado: 01-08-20
It was incredible that they were actually able to do all this, to find the Marine, PFC Mulligan. It was interesting how many people were involved and how much of a process it was.
I am most disappointed that after this incredible story, the final chapter discussing the funeral, the author keeps saying the Soldiers. I bet it wasn't a Soldier who played Taps or Soldiers saluting. It was MARINES. Marines burying one of their own. The Marine Corps is not the Army. I would think after all this author's research into so many things, he would have known better. The Marine Corps is a unique branch with much more pride. They deserve to be called Marines.
